I just came back from my cruise and before I left I ordered a 94 mr2 3sgte alternator... needless to say I would not be typing this if it fit properly. It does not fit nor there is a way to fit it there. Brackets are misaligned to another quarter inch or so. So I pulled the old one and compared them side to side. Ground on old one is skimpy and mr2 alternator is at least 12mm vs 10 on the old one. Unfortunately there are no numbers on old alternator so Im at a loss. I asked them to get me a 94 celica gt one just to see if that one fits... Yeah I know I know such is life of not doing the swap yourself, I would have known otherwise.
Does anyone have any idea what alternator is supposed to go into st205? I have my fingers crossed for a celica one because I hate having to extend my car rental yet again. Autozone is supposed to call me back by 4pm today. I would not be suprised if xat racing just left the old alternator there from 5sfe engine and if thats the case I will be up and running again. Hopefully. -------------------- Captain Pessimist

The 5SFE (Celica GT) alternator works just fine, that's normally what I recommend using.

Does anyone have any idea what alternator is supposed to go into st205? Yes...a 205 alternator MR2 alternators fit in a different place to celica alternators...they go in roughly the same place as the st205 power steering pump. -------------------- |

I suspected there was something odd. Well now I am impatiently waiting for a phone call from autozone. I will update this thread once I (hopefully) successfully install a new alternator.

Oh really... never knew the 205 got a 90amp.
Wonder if there is a 90amp toyota alt that would fit. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

alternator connected. I looked at the diagram and of course picture did not match my wire colors. So taking a huge leap of faith I connected them the way Wires were bundled up. Car started beautifully and runs like a champ. I feel I am walking on a razor blade so my #1 priority is to get the harness thing before my wires come loose. I went to 4 junkyards today and called up all the stores and scouted the internet. Nothing yet. I keep hoping

I know this thread is just about 2 years old, but i noticed mention of st185 alternator, just wondering if it will work on my st205??
there are plenty of st185 wrecks here, but st205's are hard to come by, anyways my alternator just died. what now for me? This post has been edited by delusionz: Dec 20, 2010 - 5:22 AM -------------------- Mike W

According to Toyodiy, both the st205 and st202 use 80A alternators, everything listed for the ST202 seems to be universal ST20* / 3S-*E / AT/MT
Toyodiy lists the ST185 alternator to be 70A, so scrap that idea, plus they are at the least 4 years older than what I already have. so the only difference would be the cooling duct and the plug?? So can I pull apart my st205 alternator and stuff the guts of an st202 alternator in, and away I go? st205 alt diagram st202 alt diagram This post has been edited by delusionz: Dec 20, 2010 - 6:06 AM -------------------- Mike W
