I haven't ever had my air bags serviced in my 95 Celica. I was supposed to have them done at 10 years but didn't.

Has anyone had theirs serviced and what is involved in doing that? Any other thoughts?

Thanks

Hey,

in my opinion it's not necessary to do such a service, my first car was 94' and I did not service the airbag any time.
But what you can do is have all the SRS sensors looked at, clean all the connections and see if any are corroded.

Most cars get new airbags before the 10 yr mark.

I work at a dealership and I'm pretty sure none of the techs would even know what to do if someone asked them to service the airbags. I think that's just Toyota's way of saying they aren't liable if the airbags malfunction after being left alone for 10yrs.

It's pretty much an auto manufacturer's way of saying they aren't liable if the bags don't deploy. The lifespan of the propellant in the bags, the sensors, etc is longer than 10 years, but can start to fail after the 10-15 year mark. The cost of replacement of all the parts would be as much as the car, so it's definitely not worth even bothering with.

I know the airbags have never been replaced since I have had the car since 95.

I am starting work on restoring my car. So I am what I need to do/replace etc and was wondering how important that was.

I'll look into inspecting the SRS sensors.

Thanks!
