ok....I have a question. I was thinking since our cars are front wheel drive does it matter to take all the wight off of the hood? Yea...you would weigh less but would it really matter the amount of wheel traction you would loose? I don't think you would loose any wheel traction but it was a thought. I figure the engine would be enough and also....do you guys with CF hoods notice a difference?? Thanks!

Putting a carbon fiber hood isnt going to do squat for performance for u car. Its alot of money for nothing because you'll need a complete carbon fiber body to lose ne weight. The 20-30 lbs you lose with the CF hood isnt going to do ne thing with traction or acceleration. I personally think its a waste of money.

HUH?! Your engine doesnt get more powerful cuz ur car is lighter. U have a car that weights 4000lbs and 200horses its going to lag, u have a car thats 2000lbs and 200horses its going to move pretty damn quick, but its still only 200horses. If you have a heavy sub box in ur trunk, and u take it out, do u feel a difference?

Jon, like ya, but i almost passed out from that.

I think that he was saying that for ever 10 lbs you lose you don't gain actually gain 1hp, you just utilize it better. It's like if I were to lose 100 lbs in my celi then if would feel as though I gained 10hp. So your not actually gaining hp your just using the hp you have more efficiently.

I have a cf hood, and really, there isnt a difference, and if there is one, it is too small to notice. It just looks nice smile.gif

Lossing weight_ your engine performs the same but it's lesser weight the motor has to move=more speed. 20-30pounds you will never feel, 300 pounds-yes.

haha, A hood won't give you Hp wink.gif You took that the wrong way.

It's like saying a 2950 pound car with 205hp is the same as a 3000 pound car with 200.

That's why I'm really not diggin the AWD swap. For all the extra heft, you really don't get much.

Get a carbon fiber hood, rip out thos backseats, a/c? F-that. Passanger seat? No use for that. Rip that trunk off... its just a trunk right? and use 4 donut spares and ur gonna haul A$$ man!

lol j/j

the only reason to get a c/f hood is for looks. Fiberglass is basically just as light if u wanna get a custom hood. My friend has one on his ss camaro.

carbon hoods will not effect your acceleration, however there is a slight chance that it will effect your cornering. Because the hood is above the center of weight of the car it creates alot of lateral force while you are turning. Thus the lighter weight = less force. Will you feel a 20 or 30 lb difference, probably not, but it is a good place to start weight reduction and it looks good at the same time.

ok any weight reduction will do you better. that also includes losing your own body weight, period

so a CF hood is not useless

It's useless if a CF hood is a person's ONLY plan for weight reduction... But if they plan on reducing weight elsewhere (i.e. your example of body weight =P ), then yes... a CF hood would be a good start...

But if it's merely for looks... I say BAH... IMHO, I think CF hoods only look good on black or really dark colored cars... but that's just me and my own personal feelings...

for every 50 lbs you lose, you chop off .1 seconds in the 1/4 mile..so a carbon fiber hood really doesn't do much unless you go all out, back seat trunk, everything...i got it for looks...if i was speed oriented i wouldn't have bought an ST smile.gif
