 Changing valve shimms, alternative to the toyota SST |

what have you guys used in teh past to change valve shimms. im not going to pull this engine again nor do i want to take out the intake cam so it need to be done like in the BGB.

I used the lovehorsepower method.
Basically, you use an allen key to compress the valve, and then a flat head screw driver flipped on its side to hold it compressed by the edge of the bucket. Once you have everything in place, use a mini screw driver and a magnetic pickup tool to fish the shim out. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

thats what i was thinking, sounds like a 2 person job. luckily the shimms are big. on a 2ZZ if you drop one it could fall in an oil jacket.

It sure would be cool if someone did a detailed how-to with pics for our site and our engines specifically. Mine, like most 3S's, is in need of an adjustment and I've never done it before.

Probably not, unless you've changed something in the valvetrain.
The shims wear very little, even engines with 200K+ don't tend to be out of adjustment. Adjustment is usually required when you change something with the valves, like valve seats, or a new cam, ect. I am watching this with interest also. I just did a short block in mine and I must have got one or two shims mixed up because I can here one in there tapping away- A write up would be great!
