well i have had 2 people tell me the same thing this week, and its starting to get me worried. my uncle and father both said that running an open downpipe isnt the greats for the motor. 1) because when its sucks back in cool air it starts to twist the fins on the turbo, and also its not to good for a valves and it will caus them to bend. i know i need an exhaust and thats next on the list, i dont want to drive it around with an open downpipe but right now i have no other choice. i just wanted to see if anyone on here has ever heard of this happening or if it has heppened to them. as soon as i get som money together i will get one put on, but right now theres not much i can do. any comments and suggestions are more then welcome..i would like to hear a couple oppinions on the matter. Thanks

I would have to say no. On this motor back pressure is a bad thing and a free flowing exhaust is good.

I would have to say no. On this motor back pressure is a bad thing and a free flowing exhaust is good. yea thats what i was thinking...i mean i could see on a regular 4 banger running an open header wouldnt be good because it would be easier for cold air to get up in there and hit the valves, but im thinking with a turbo it has to go past that then into the motor. i just wanted to make sure, because the last thing i need are bent vlaves or a twisted turbine -------------------- I"M NOT A TOYOTA FAN, IM A FANATIC 1984 accord hatch 5 speed (T-Belt)-Junkyard 1991 VDUB jetta wolfsburg Ed. 5 speed (clutch)-junkyard 1988 Dodge Aries K (sold) 1969 Chevy El camino - Traded for celica 1991 Dodge Daytona-Traded for Celica 1988 Chevy Camaro-Work in Progress 1989 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 - For Sale 1995 Toyota Celica-Work in Progress |

As I said before, its a myth. Its also impossible for any cold air to get into your exhaust valves because there is a turbo at the exhaust manifold that would prevent anything like that from happening. Not to mention that the exhaust side of the turbo is ceramic and its impossible for ceramic to bend or deform due to a temperature change like steel does.
But get your exhaust done asap, cause that **** is crazy loud and youll get a ticket if you keep driving it like that. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

on a turbo motor, the best exhaust is no exhaust.

my friends with good hp do not run an exhaust - they have real good times but of course they have turbo. I wouldn't do it on a low hp na motor.
