Anyone done an engine swap? I have a 1994 Celica GTS and I want to get a different engine with more power. From what I see I guess the best way to go would be the 3SGE or the 3SGTE if I wanted turbo. Now is there a big difference from installing the 3SGE or 3SGTE? Some people tell me that you need to change the Transmisson is that true?
Any information is appreciated folks. |

you can run the stock 5sfe tranny with it... you may want to beef up some of the components though.

Hey white gts, as i understand it your from Toronto too, if you want to learn more about the swap in general and in person you can go to Japanese Automotive (Its near Yorkdale Mall) his website is www.japanese-auto.com, he is quite pricey though, also im waiting on a quote from the guys at ultimate racing, who are in Markham I believe, heres their website www.ultimate-racing.com, these are the only places I have found that say they can do the swap!!Hope that helps you out a bit......

If you have a manual transmission I would say get the 3S-GTE. If you have an automatic transmission I would get a '97 3S-GE with VVTi. In Japan, and elsewhere, the Celica SS-III came equipped with the 200HP 3S-GE and an automatic transmission as an option. As it turns out, the auto tranny used for the SS-III is the A140E. That is that same transmission that is used in the US Celica GT with the 5S-FE motor.

celicagtpnoi raised a good point on the 3sge.. As for the 3sgte I know that the manul GT tranny will work, am not sure about the automatic but would assume that it would work also... call TRD on that one - 1.800.688.5912. I would suggest that you go with the 3sgte over the 3sge but to each there own.

Boost have you heard of a plcae called KSR in Scarborough. They've done many swaps for honda's and toyota and believe it or not he found me a 1992 3SGTE for 1500 canadian plus labour. I've know this guy for a long time since I grew up with him but do think if I place the turbo one in my car would have more problems down the road but I like the power. Plus getting an engine with Turbo may be more trouble as in cost more parts and life of engine may not be as good. |

I have a manual transmission. Boost are you looking for an engine rigth now? If you are I can hook you up with a shop in North York that has a 1998 DOHC VVTI 3SGE available. It only has 10,000 clicks on it. It's very cheap way to cheap... Now the funny thing is the guy told me that he ripped it out of a 1998 celica GT and the car is from Canada. How is that possible? I thought all 3SGTE engines are from over seas. Has anyone done a swap before? I talked to many shops and they told me after buying the engine you still need lots of parts like sensors computer and many more other stuff. How many clicks you have on your car Boost? |

Jigga if you buy a clip with a 3s-gte(you can get one for around 2g shipped) it should come with a tranny and all you'd have to do is swap it, labor may be a little pricey but worth it if you plan to expect huge power gains.
