So my clutch burned out last night on the middle of the highway and I had to get my car towed. The garage it got towed to said estimated repairs would be $1938 for new clutch, flywheel, and a few other things - and thats with a 15% old employee discount.

My mechanic friend recommended instead of getting it fixed with stock parts I look into a performance clutch kit.

The problem is Im a college student and $2000 would take forever to raise.

What would you guys recommend?

my car is a virtually stock 1995GT minus new head unit and cone filter intake

any help would be greatly appreciated

you can get an OEM clutch kit for under $200? The Flywheel resurfaced for like $20 - do it yourself..... its not terribly hard... all you need is an impact wrench... a means to hold the engine up - worst case you need to expect to spend another $100 on the sway bar links you'll trash...

Bottom line $2K for a clutch sounds high. very high. In fact I'll go one more...

My POS 2003 SVT Ford Focus was $1300 for new clutch, flywheel (can't resurface these ones) and a new clutch master cylinder - and this was at a stealership.

It will take him a moment to realize that he's about to make a 180 degree turn at speed, but you will be ready for it. Brace for the g's, and fast heel-toe work.

if you are mechanically inclined, if it is your clutch only, will cost you avg. 200 bucks for an exedy performance clutch.
