i was planing on turboing my celica and i had a few questions before i do so.
1. has any one put a tubo on an automatic trans and can it handle it? 2. which is better duel or single bov? 3. what kind or brand of engine management should i use? 4. how much boost can the stock internals hold? |

1. OOBE's '94 ST is turbo'd and automatic. Depends on how much power you're putting through it, it can handle it. He's reached 240 WHP, although it wasn't sustained.
4. Depends on the turbo, but again, OOBE is running (I think) 10-12 PSI on a T3/T4. Hafkai is running 12 PSI. This post has been edited by SwissFerdi: Nov 18, 2009 - 3:58 PM -------------------- '97 ST \ Eibach \ KYB \ Kenwood \ Alpine \ Cusco \ OEM+ [sold 10/18]

yea.. theres a million variables to consider. I believe shannon blew a 5s-fe tranny at 5psi yet jeff run a 5s-fe @ 12psi? could be more.... on an auto for over a year just fine

First mod for your transmission should be to fit a good transmission cooler as the auto transmission is cooled by the engine radiator and so the fluid is always at engine water temp. Fit a small engine oil cooler intead as a transmission cooler with an inline oil stat set to about 60° centigrade. This will help the transmission to run cooler and last longer.

So far I haven't noticed my tranny slippin' or anything. It behaved awesomely in the dyno after many, many pulls and same on the road. I am very eager to hear it slip once I take it to the dyno again and crank up the boost, LOL.

For my personal question...
i have a 97 ST with the 7afe and i would like to turbo mine too.... but what would be the best fix for managing the fuel for the mix? i have heard of just swaping fuel pumps and injectors. but then again, i also heard you could just reprogram the ecu to remap the flow. sry but im kinda new to all the technical tuning stuff |

Maybe I'm mistaken on the programing part. I think i read it off of some online article... But the article was more about general cars not just celicas. The celi proly does have inadequate pumps and injectors. So I guess I'll just have to switch it all. But I'm wodering if the same engine corolla turbo kit will work on my celi?

There is no bolt-on kit for the ST, you could get a 7afe corolla kit but you'd have to modify it to fit. -------------------- |

it'll really depends on your goals, and how much your willing to spend to get it to run properly.
if its maintained properly, and most importantly tuned correctly, a properly built 7afte will last a good long while, even with stock internals. i made 300+whp with my 5sfte a handful of years ago now, on a stock bottom end, and blew it with my half assed tuning. just a matter of building it right, and tuning it properly, no matter the engine. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)
