Yes there is a difference. Automatic transmissions use a fluid called automatic transmission fluid commonly known as ATF. While Manual Transmission use a gear type oil generally around 75w-90.

Our celica take ATF Dexron II or III.

Dry (w/o differential fluid) 5.6L (5.9 quarts)
Drain & Refill (w/o differential fluid) 2.5L (2.6 quarts)

Hope that helps! Cheers!

Easy to drain, a pain to fill. I know there is some info on here about that. I did it about a year ago.

Two plugs sorta in the back off the diff. Use ATF for sure. I think I just drained mine and then filled it til it almost poured out which is roughly the amount it calls for. I would do it, the filter and the trany itself all in one deal.

Ok, use those two threads and you'll be fine. And yeah, if your doing the diff you might as well do the whole thing in one shot. Trans refill/Diff refill and of course filter.

good info. I just did the tranny fluid with new filter yesterday. I can do the diff separately?
edit: ok im reading the service manual and how it says "Both transmission and differential plugs must be
removed to drain all fluid from both units."....does this mean I have to drain it again?....good grief.
