I want to replace my intake manifold and plenum - the plenum is easy, but the manifold itself looks kinda tricky and removing the fuel rail scares me because I've never done it before and have NO idea how to do it properly or what to expect.
Can anyone direct me to a decent how-to, or do a quick write-up for me? Other than disconnecting the battery and not smoking around it, what safety precautions do I need to take when pulling the injectors & disconnecting the fuel rail? I don't at ALL know the proper way to do this, and I don't entirely trust Haynes. -------------------- |

you can do it without touching the fuel rail. but why do you want to replace it? the plenum can be unbolted from the runners, thats pretty self explanatory. but if you want to take off the entire manifold, thats a little tough since the wiring harness is all mounted to it.
look at the pics i posted in the thread i wrote about rebuilding the 7A-FE. i have a few good pics of what you have to deal with. eeekkk, looking at my pictures, it looks like the injectors mount into the manifold and all come off together. that should make it a tad bit easier, but you still have the wiring harness in the way. http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=72502 -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

Well originally I was just going to replace the plenum, but as I got there I realized that the replacement plenum I have is from maybe a '97 ST? I dunno, the corner of it is different than my stock one, so it doesn't mate up properly to my intake manifold.
I want to replace them because I have powder coated ones that I've had for over a year, and am finally just getting around to it. It's more for the learning experience than anything, but the bling doesn't hurt either. I heart shiny stuff. So to remove the injectors from where they mount into the manifold (yes, they do mount in there, by the way), do I just unplug them and then pull them out? Will fuel leak or spray out at me, blinding and disfiguring me for all eternity? -------------------- |

there is 2 bolts that secure the rail to the manifold. the injectors are just sandwiched in there. you will have to disconnect the fuel lines feeding the rail. that will relieve the pressure. there will be residual gas in the rail. but it shouldnt be under pressure.
probably the easiest thing to do is disconnect the lines and leave the rail on the manifold untill you get it off. then remove everything. -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

to releave fuel from the lines you can just do like what you should do when you change a fuel filter. disconnect the fuel pump fuel and run the car until it dies. after that there shouldnt be any fuel. it'll take a few cranks to get it started again once your done
