So I got the sides the other day, but it was raining ....and most of this morning. but as soon as it stopped.... I started
So its a very long process of getting them to fit but I really like the look:). And thanks to AJ I had a general idea of what to start with (he was very helpful) but put my own spin on alot of it, which i thought was easier. Any how, I got one almost "done" still have a ton! of work to do, to mold it all flush, but thats alot easier than holding SS up and marking out, and cutting, and holding, and trying to rivit it, all by my self lol. Heres some pics Walk out Cut for the "vent" (vent doesnt actually do anything, i covered it in the back) A few different angles when i cut enough and had it fall into place well enough to rivit it in Cut the rear off, extending, ran out of resin so I had to stop Started laying out the mat, getting it all ready (mainly in my head ) Started to spread the resin, but I ran out Rest of the pics are mainly how it looks now, keep in mind, I ran out of resin, I will be finishing it tomorrow along with the other side Tell me what you think I know its not everyones style .. And if anyone has questions ask its not as hard as it may look... if you have some patience .. the only "body work" experience I have is putting on my invader kit -------------------- |

lol yeah there was no other way to do it, other than cutting through. But I primed everything I cut (didnt cut any "frame pieces" from like too far down)
I honestly never plan to sell this car, so cutting it wasnt a big issue and I could fix it if i ever needed too, wouldnt be too hard, kept the piece i cut out, and also tried very hard to cut out as minimal as possible it will most likely be all done tomorrow night, even the bondo so ill have more pics, and you'll be able to see my "vision" more clearly and hope it looks as good as I envision then paint next wknd, and CSP Meet the next -------------------- |

Just a quick question, it rains and I'm sure you plan on driving in the rain, that scoop is gonna suck water into that hole you cut, did u at least make a drainage hole for any water that does build up in there? cuz i'm sure ounce water gets in there if it sits it'll rot that quarter panel away from the inside?

i definitely agree with what RavenAegis45 said, water will just sit inside of it as well and that won't make it so great. Did you really have to cut that piece for the SS cause most vents don't require you to cut into the body and I don't think that the cut is made in supra's either. I hope that hole doesn't come back and haunt you...
But anyway I can't wait to see how it comes out, it will be very unique! |

I put a thin piece of fiberglass mat on the back side of the mesh, and painted it black. For the illusion of depth, and to keep the water out lol i thought about the water as well.
And the hole had to be cut, the "vent" has to go in at least 2 inches, for the skirt to be even close to flush. And thats only after cutting the skirt with a dremel...well... all over the place lol. I had to cut out a bunch of the skirt, which was a little scary (more so than the cutting of the sheet metal) I dont know if you would have to cut in on a supra, as the body lines are alot! more different than you would think, the skirts dont go along with the body of a celi, but they will when im done with them -------------------- |

right! thats what i was going for. I mean I like the OEM look, and how people do the GT-Four front end conversion...but i didnt want to be like everyyyyone else lol.
As far as i know this has only been done one other time, by AJ (who sold his car), but i stayed in contact with him, so he was able to help quite a bit, just from a few pics he had... but pics are not, a 100% reference, as all kits are made a little different, and we did it a little differently. But go ahead and be a copycat lol idc, AJ really wanted for someone to follow in his foot steps when he "retired", and he has a alot! more great ideas ill be trying out in the near future. -------------------- |

lol thank you, and its just the "angles" i guess of the sides, There was no way to extend them to the point of getting them to the rear wheel well, i thought about it a abunch but it would of looked a bit funny, there may have been a way..but I couldnt envision it
And the hood for 150 was why i picked it up, was far too good of a deal and I know its not everyones taste lol, but at least give it enough time to be finished -------------------- |

i love the idea
i would have tried to strech them tho like was previously stated you could have cut them taken a couple lengths of balsa or bass wood over layed some thin pink sterofoam insulation stapled thet to the balsa or bass wood frame then over that layed down fibre glass then a bit of bondo then another bit of fiberglass and bondo then smoothed it out Thats how several one off car makers do it d b |

So I started the molding process today, was a bit hard with the angles and amount that needed to be done, and I ahve only ever molded the rear bumper...so I dont know if i do it the easiest way. any how heres some unfinished pics-
(I have a couple thin layers of it on there, the last layer which you see has not been sanded, so it obv. looks pretty bad, but it is coming along, I think tomorrow it will be done -------------------- |

One thing though man, I noticed you're using cardboard for your resin - I would advise against doing that. Cardboard absorbs important parts of the resin and can result in a lesser adherance...learned this from a youtube video from Butler Community College. Although they were talking about body filler, I imagine the same would apply to fiberglass resin.
I used a piece of laminated bathroom tile - had cardboard backing but that wasn't the side I was using lol. Looks good otherwise, I'm a tad iffy on those fender vents though. -------------------- |

Not gunna lie, the side skirts are looking better than i was expecting, Im curious to see the end result.
Are you gunna have to get spacers on the rear to make the wheel look less sucked in? since the skirts make it look wider. -------------------- -Protection mode, For when your amp tries to blow its load. 1995 Toyota Celica GTS - Daily Driver 1999 Chevy Cavalier - Winter Beater 1994 Honda Civic CX Hatchback - Dead My Celica! |

Thankk you lol its comin along
I have ideas to make the car alot lower, so I may get a "wide fender flare" and mold it in, in the near future for the rear. (aj did it, and it made it look alot better since everything was out more) And I wasnt mixing the fiberglass on cardboard, I mixed that in a bunch of plastic containers, although I did mix the bondo on the cardboard... but for the most part the cardboard is not "porous" like it would normally be because it has a bunch of old layers of praypaint Ill keep the updates coming, as the progress gets further and then it will be time to update the paint thread (may start painting wends) -------------------- |

So my car has been moved to my uncles garage, after weeks of helping him work on his camper to get it out of there! so i could move in
So using a bigger compressor helped alot with the sanding (I only have a small one that you have to sand for like a min then wait for the compressor to fill, ect) But for the most part if had to be hand sanded..and lets just say my arm is a bittt tired But alot of it had to be hand sanded, applied like 3 skim coats of bondo, on top of what i already had, sanding in between, and the body lines are finally starting to look good! After sanding allllllllll day it was nice to see im almost done! need to apply one more coat I think and and get another thing of glazing putty and a little more sanding, and it should be done The front fender flares are almost flush now, which is awesome. Took some pics, but the lighting is not that bright so my phone couldnt capture what it looks like. (none of these pics are from the end of the day, looks a little better now) -------------------- |

It doesnt look bad but those fender vents throw ALL of your body lines off. If they werent there it would look alot better. Good progress tho. Cant wait to see it painted. But i think you should take those vents off.

Cut for the "vent" (vent doesnt actually do anything, i covered it in the back) if the vent doesnt actually work...then why not just cut the back of the vent on the side skirt so it fits flush to the body vs cutting a whole in ur car? jw .. maybe im wrong ... not my style but dont let anyone tell u different from wat u like my dude -------------------- st205 powered ss3 coupe

with the inside of the vent cut (in order to sit even partially flush) it would look funny, I thought about it (its hard to explain how the body lines dont match up) but it woulda taken away from the the look 100%. But i do get if someone ever wanted to do this to their car and planned on ever selling or doing something different i would advise against it, but i dont ever plan on changing it
Its almost done and for some reason I like the fender vents... lol almost everyone i talk to doesnt like them, but i do -------------------- |

Thanks for all the support everyone
So I had a shortened day at the garage cause I have to go work in a few mins, but the front vents are 100% molded, and the lines are a smooth as can be (spent alot of time on those today because they are so small, its hard to sand and get it right but I did it ) As for the rest of it, I applied 2 more light coats of bondo sanding in between, and i'd say its 75% done the lines are reallly looking good, almost like they are supposed to be there The way I see it, one more coat and some good sanding, possibly a few runs with the glazing putty, and its all done. The I am sanding the whole car down some more with 180, then 500-600. And possibly painting wends? I got some pics, of the finished fender vents, but my phone was dieing so I only have pics of the rest about an hour before i actually finished, it looks a little better, and pics never do anything justice -------------------- |

When the hood was on my car I had the hood pins adjusted very tight to suck up that gap. I also put a piece of plastci under the front bumper at the top where it meets the hood. Between the to things I had the hood closed with no gap. Oh an side shirts look good.

I applaud once again the DIY! Quick Edit Before Pizza is destroyed: I personally do not like the vents...BUT, with what you are adding..all that "flare" best I can describe, I think it will fit nicely when done. I can see by your detail of work, that you've thought those vents out. Eager to see that as well! This post has been edited by rave2n: Aug 9, 2010 - 9:09 PM |

haha yeah, ive been thinking (wanting) to do this for monthssss so I had plenty of time to think it through, to make them look good and all that detail is succhhhh a pain! but I assume someone with more bodywork experience (molding) would be able to do it easier, I see as im going along, I coulda done it faster but ohh well its coming together, and im trying to take my time
thanks for the support and I cant wait for the finished product either I think it should all be done by friday -------------------- |

soo i got up at 8am...again! (im not very used to waking up early ) but spent the whole day molding and sanding, and molding and sanding and molding... yeah you get the point
BUT! The Sideskirts and Vents are 100% "perfectly" molded (perfect as in the molding is completely flush and as smooth as can be , the lines could have been matched up a little better flow "flow better" but for the 2nd time ever molding something, it looks amazing!) Unfortunately I only got to take pics of about 3/4 the way through the day as when I was just finishing my ride got there (my friend is extremely impatient ) so I didnt have time to snap any finished product pics, but either tomorrow or thurs I will get them before I start painting. And the pics look bad, and it still looks pretty bad in person, because the way the glazing putty settles, if the spot is darker its just because it had to fill a little bit bigger hole, so it looks very spotty, but its completely smooth (now) This post has been edited by mgnt232: Aug 10, 2010 - 4:13 PM -------------------- |

Pics of when i pulled her out of the garage, so I could clean up the shop and paint. I sanded it all down more after these pics, to be ready for paint. But I didnt realize the stupid threaded connections on the water separator, so I had to go get those, and finished taping everything and laying down paper, and hanging up plastic, cleaning the car off.... only to realize I didnt have any more quick connects for the paint gun! !!!! AHHH I was pi**ed to say the least lol. So painting will begin tomorrow morning as soon as home depot opens and I will be posting in that thread- Pics still look like its not "flush" but its smoothhh, no bumps any where, spent alot of time on that lol- -------------------- |

its looking pretty good, if its not smooth though if you spray primer that'll give you a good tell-tale hint to whats not smooth and what is and you can still work around primer. In all fairness its looking very good, hopefully all turns out well when you paint it

haha yeah ive lovvveeeeddd the supra since I was like 10 lol.... and the celi isnt too far off... oh and thousands cheaper lol lol I'm actually considering naming my Celica "Baby Supra" I had named my Cobalt "Torque Monkey" because they was plenty on tap especially for a FWD, and I hadn't even gotten a chance to tune her from the stock 12psi to 22psi, stock she was only 260hp and 260tq and the tune would have put her to over 300hp and over 330tq. I figure the Celica since it's close to a supra and lol if I do the tail lights right it would be almost exactly a Baby Supra lol. wow are those all 6gc's? those cars are crazzzzzyyy! haha love them all!
But as for not I am done with any body work as I just finished painting the whole car (check out that thread, as I am basically finished with this one, as far as new pics, but hope people continue to read and learn) and money is very tight now lol, as I ran into alot of unforeseen costs with my last few projects, and I am going to be swapping a 3SGTE next spring (starting to save now).... but that still leaves the summer... when I make the most money anyhow lol, who knows maybe a supra rear end isnt that far -------------------- |

and my favorite..the "SKYLICA" i would sh*t myself if i ever saw this when i'm driving! but IMO that thing is so intimidating ugh... Its not supposed to look like a skyline its just the curren front end with a body kit, nothing to blow a load about. and ya the 7gc was a bad choice for a front end.
