As promised, jimbo, heres the build thread for the 'trac.
ill let you fill in the story of how you aquired it, ect, im just gonna post pics and info as i go about doing the work for ya.

so, lets get this show on the road!

first, jim came up friday with a '93 alltrac, that had a blown motor with no head on it, attached to the AWD tranny, hanging in the bay by only the drivers side mount.
in the back of his truck was a 3rd gen 3s setup, WRC tranny, and some random parts for the swap.

we got the car in the garage, and once i got the hood off and stared in amazement for a few moments, i started getting ready to litterally drop the motor out the bottom.
the crossmember and stuff was already out, all i had to do was remove the shifter cables, clutch line, and speedo gear.
i took out the 3 bolts holding the tranny bracket to the mount, and out it came with a thud. laugh.gif
joe gave me a hand pulling it out from underneath, we hung out for awhile, and that was that for friday night.
saturday morning, we went out and pulled the motor and stuff off the back of the truck, and got it into the garage.
the motor had parts of a TD06 turbo kit on it, and jim and i walked thru how he wanted it setup, and off they went.
today, i went out and got to work.
sorry for the blurry pics, for some reason my camara dont like to take pics under the floresent lights.

the bad 2nd gen and tranny

engine bay

the new motor (i had already clocked the turbo closer to where it will be in these pics)

minor clearance issue

whats wrong with this pic?

hrmm..a little gasket maker?

clearance issue solved, so lets make a screamer pipe!!

clearance to oil return line

waiting on more pipe to finish it off.

alltrac rear mount and bracket, and speedo gear along side the 205 speedo gear

i LOVE having a parts washer.

i bolted that and the tranny bracket on the WRC, and called it a night.
tommorow, i should have the parts to put timing belt side back together.
jim i hope you sent the upper timing belt backing plate (the one that bolts to the valve cover) cause i dont have one here. wink.gif

WOW Manny, You aren't wasting anytime...YOU ARE THE BEST.

I love the way the scream pipe came out, looks great.

WOW! Parts look new again after being in the parts washer. You really do spectacular work Manny, you really take pride in your work. I wouldn't trust my cars to anyone else.

No, I didn't include a Valve cover baking plate, I didn't realize I didn't give it to you. I will send that up tomorrow for you. I look forward to watching the progression of this build as much as I anticipate driving it.

For those that will follow this thread, you will have plenty to read and view in the few weeks/months...as Manny and I have a few VERY nice projects lined up.

And I cant say it enough, Manny.....YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

im hoping to have the motor in the bay by the weekend, i cant install the timing stuff without the backing plate, for some reason your cams and caps do not have the notch that every 3sgte ive ever seen has!
ill snap a couple pics for ya tommorow.

so yesterday, i went out and got a bunch more stuff done, and a package with more parts arrive for me to install today.

heres the progress

installed the a/c compressor, and alt bracket

retapped some damaged threads on the passanger mount

OMG filthy crossmembers

much easier to work with when they are like this:

whoops wrong rear main seal (old one on top, you can see how the new one is just a bit smaller)

and a little bracket i made to hold the dipstick since the WG is in the way a bit.

ordered all the intercooler piping, couplers and clamps, and tune up parts last night, im hoping to have everything here by the weekend so i can button up the motor and get it in the bay.

Damn Manny!! You never stop with these awesome projects! Mr2 rolls out, alltrac rolls right in afterwards. Should be an awesome swap thumbsup.gif Can we expect one of those famous presure2 beautifully built exhausts for this beast?

What is the wiring like on one of these swap?

I own, have swapped, wired, and seen dozens of swapped Celicas. So I am a bit particular when it comes to my own cars. And I cant say enough good things about Tweaks work. The guys over at Phoneix tuning are truly ARTISTS when it comes to wiring, and they are PROVEN setups. When I got my harness back, I went threw it and it was IMACUALTE! I have no worries that I will be chasing wiring gremlins, I have no worries my harness/car will catch fire, and I have no worries that it will fail me. I know that when I get a harness back from Tweak...IT IS DONE, and WELL above a standard of satisfactory. Tweaks work is above average, even on a professional grade.

I would recommened him to anyone, he is the best at what he does...there is no way around that.

thats good to hear, jim, i know there were a lot of people with wireing problems way back in the hay day when these swaps were very new to us, but im sure doing them over and over that it has become a lot easier to diagnoise if there are problems that arise.

Im sure that if i swaped again, i would do a 3rd gen for may simple reasons, including the wireing which i would be able to do myself.

PICTURES!

i've never seen a swap that tweak did the harness on that had issues. since this is a 205 into a alltrac, the wiring is more complicated than a 205 swap in a 6th gen, which is MUCH easier.
DG, and mikes were a diffrent story.
tweak does excellent work, he just did a bodyharness for my cousins mr2 project and it was 100% plug and play perfect.
anyway..
the progress for today...
got ready to install the cam gears and timing belt, we recently tried this new "gel" threadlock from permatex. this is the threadlocker i will buy from now on, its absolutly the bomb.
the liquid stuff tends to be runny, hard to tell if there is enough on there, ect.
this stuff being a gel sticks on the bolts, and dont run off, less waste, and works great. i like the blue, cause it holds everything together well enough, but dont permanantly lock things together.

i had to retap the lower tensioner bolt hole, you can see the damaged threads in this pic

somthing odd about this particular motor. every 3s ive ever seen has notches on the back of the cam caps, and cams, to line them up for timing.
this motor does not have them.

cam gears and t-belt installed

im also going to be installing an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, so i took a pic as i was removing the stock FPR.

we are going to run it in a "deadhead" setup, where the stock return line is eliminated, by using the return on the areomotive FPR.
in a stock setup, the fuel runs like this:
pump - filter - rail - regulator - return
the new configuration will go
pump - filter - regulator - rail, with the return coming out of the regulator.
the main reason to do it that way for me is just ease of install, and its proven to work just as well if not better than the stock setup, also there are less fittings and line this way which makes it cheaper.
more to come, tommorow we pull the fuel tank!

imma go out to the garage in a bit and start installing jims AFPR, and making the lines up for it.
if the toyota parts arrive, ill install the rear main, and install the tranny too.
jim also asked me to do a battery relocation to the trunk, so i'll order a battery tray this weekend and start preping for that as well.

no.
since its an alltrac, the gas tank isnt under the back seat, its where the spare goes, near the bumper.

last night, i installed the rear main, valve cover, and installed the tranny.

for some reason, once the tranny is on (which by the way, installing a AWD tranny BLOWS.) the motor will no longer turn.
that means, today, i have to go pull that bitch back off, and figure out why.

jim, if i cant get this one to work, imma just use jeremeys tranny.

so, it was the fork.
seems like in the process of installing the tranny, it slipped forward and got caught in the PP.

resinstalled it, and all is well.

got the tune up parts, and fuel filter, so i was able to finalize the AFPR install, and got the harness on, tommorow ill throw the last few parts on and get it into the bay.

thanks man...now that the motor is in the bay, things should get good quick...i've got a huge FMIC to mount, IC piping and an intake to fab up, fuel lines to finish...it should make for some good posts over the next week or so.

Shortest video ever... It only takes them 38 seconds to do an engine swap on the Upper North East Coast.

how about if someone put a 5th generation beams blacktop with dual VVT-I from the altezza in the GT-Four. Being that it has VVT-I would it be able to produce more hp than the 3rd gen 3sgte if it were set up correctly. By this I mean low comp pistons yada yada blah blah. Wouldn't you be able to get a better tune with VVT-I or is the vvt-i on the intake and exhaust removed once you pass 500 hp??

now that the motor is in, there are some fitment issues with the ATS downpipe, and the turbo itself hits the fan shroud.

this is about to get ugly, quick..lol

I had to grind the shroud when I installed the mishimoto radiator on mine, and the 5th gen has even less engine bay room than that! lol
Looks like its time for a set of low profile fans!

Really cool project btw. Id love to have a real alltrac!

finished up the fuel line install, and spent a couple hrs working on the ignitor and coil bracket.

when tweak did the harness work, he did not set it up to work in the alltrac chassis.
on the alltrac, the ignitor and coil are not attached to the firewall together, like the 6th gen.
since the harness was left as if it were going in a 6th gen chassis, the wiring for the ignitor and coil were together, and wouldnt reach the stock location on the alltrac.
so, i cut up a few brackets, and made one to hold both the ignitor and coil together, like the 6th gen.

pics.

finalized fuel line install:

and the ignitor/coil bracket

and a quick pic showing the start of the piping route for the IC

installed the clutch line and bled it, installed the heater core hoses, had to switch the control valve to the 3rd gen one, the alltrac one was damaged.
installed the shifter cable clips, just waiting on the bushings from CRW to complete that.
finished the screamer pipe, and sliced and diced an old downpipe i had for the 3" flange so i can start welding up the b-pipe tommorow.
the hood latch hold downs came in, as well as the BOV flange, tommorow more couplers for the intercooler, solid crossmember bushings from speed source, and fittings and line for the water lines for the turbo should all arrive... should be a buzy day tommorow!
pics then!!

and the aerocatch hood latches.

these things are really cool, they come in 2 versions, a top mount version that sits about 1/8" of an inch above the surface, that use screws and nuts to hold them on, or a bottom mount style that goes in from the bottom and mounts flush with a nice flat surface, that use adheasive to mount them.

i wasnt sure about the flush mount style, and knew the top mount ones work on an alltrac (pat c has them on his 200+MPH alltrac with the same hood jim will be using) so thats what we ordered for him.

packaging:

the latch (open) and pin (hardware is included as well, just not pictured)

the pin in place:

latched:

these things are quite a bit more than your average hood pins...but man, they are definetly 100000x cleaner, and more secure. they even come in locking versions!

aerocatch.com site

more pics of those when i go to install them...that should be an interesting process! laugh.gif

got more work done on the car yesterday, finished up the intercooler piping, and made the b-pipe.

i also made myself a pipe beader, out of a pair of vice grips, a 3" exhuast clamp, and a washer.
(how to is here: http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=76924 )
pics of that and the IC piping.

how it gets used:

the results:

the pipes welded, and then grinded down and beaded

Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them.

thats good to hear, jim, i know there were a lot of people with wireing problems way back in the hay day when these swaps were very new to us

Ugh - tell me about it. Stephen and I are STILL working out the bugs from early 6GC.net swap wires kindasad.gif
It's about there now tho.

Manny and Jim - You two are the beasts of the east man. Great luck to you on this project [as if you'd need it LOL]

Jim - I need parts from your discarded 2nd gen BAD - Please hit me up [Shannon has my digits if you don't still]

lmao we try, mattt. we try. wink.gif

jim is on vacation with shannon till saturday. i really dont think he'll mind, just let me know if you need it. i think i may have one laying around from jims old 2nd gen setup to replace it if need be. smile.gif

soo, not too much happening the past couple days, finished up the bpipe, just waiting on some parts to arrive, gonna go out in a while and clean up the welds on the b-pipe, paint it, and install it, and put the finishing touches on the IC piping before it gets sent for coating.

one cool thing that did happen is my cousin took jims wheels over to the local vo-tech school, and they are going to dismount the tires, clean up the bead seats on the wheels, install new valve stems, remount and balance them, all for free. gotta love that.
the bead seats are a bit rusty from the car sitting for so long, so the tires, even though they are like new, dont wanna hold air, the above should fix it right up!

pics over the weekend!
