Hi All,
I was installing a new head unit and something has blown whilst i was doing so. I didn’t have the battery disconnected when installing the unit (I'm an idoit!!!) and some of the bar wires crossed paths. The dome light went out and the car won’t start now – the keyless remote also wont work. All fuses are OK and all other electrical items are operational. I’m thinking that the immobiliser has something to do with it but I have no idea how it is controlled or where is it placed – I imagine that its quite hard to get too as to remain tamper proof. Has anyone else experience simular problems and can it be repaired by a novice? Cheers, Matt This post has been edited by Crowy: Dec 14, 2010 - 4:36 PM |

Are you sure you checked the correct fuses? The radio fuse is under the hood, not under the dash, and if I recall, the dome and the radio are on the same fuse line.

Ive checked the fuses under the hood. There are 3 fuses in a row: Dome | ECU | Radio - all three fuses are Ok. I was thinking that these three components are wired together and something has blown causing failure in all three. I know the Dome and Radio arent working and the ingnition is turning over so maybe it is the ECU!! Damn!! Would this also explain why my keyless entre isn't working?? Is the ECU an easy fix or should i leave it to the pros and pull out the credit card?!?!

Hey I know this is a few days too late, maybe you've got it running by now but anyways...
shorting wires like that will blow a fuse, find the fuse... even u say ur fuses are fine, u cant not blow a fuse so just keep looking for it.... which wires specifically did you short? i doubt you fried your ecu, nothing you could have been working on would be on the same circuitry as the ecu. -------------------- Mike W
