Heya,
I've been wondering about doing this conversion for a while now... I have a complete SSII sat in my drive. The Mcpherson on my car is in need of some TLC and thought i'd give transplanting it off the doner a go instead. Just wondering if someone can help me with a few things. Most information out there seems to be going the other way, from SS to McP. I've heard mixed things on if i need to remove the whole steering rack and put that in as well, some people seem to say the tie rods are shorter on the SS setup. Just from looking at it i can't really see a big difference. Also looking to slap the twin pots onto the front, guessing that will go with no issues? The only thing that concerns me is the spline on the driveshafts, do i need to use the shafts from the old car as well? Thanks for any help you can give me, feel free to call me mad for wanting to do this as well. -nix |

I'd say go for it all the way. I was considering doing it because everyone here in California thinks their honda civics and integra are the best ff handling machines alive, but soon found out the cost of the replacement parts, the fact that their are not very many coilover options for it, and the C-One sway bar. Superstrut is better than Mcpherson in every way, but is going to cost you quite a good amount to get it up and running. I'd say if you had 3S-GE Beams Redtop and Superstrut like the SS-III celica that would be awesome
Cost of items are shipped to California : -C-One Front Sway Bar 18mm thick $350, my current Suspension Technique Front and Rear Sway Bars cost me $320!! -camber control link: toyota part number: 48066-20060 Lower arm no.1: Toyota part number: right 48605-29015 / left 48606-29015 those parts will cost you around $900 if not a little more. No company makes any aftermarket replicas of the oem ones. Sadly enough it would be great if someone did, because first they would be cheaper and 2nd, they would be made of aluminum. -Coilovers, that option is up to you. Buying a set of used TRD Coilovers for the ST202 will cost you about $300 minimum. I'm sure you want those rebuilt so I found out from the toyota dealer and it would cost $1,600 for 4 brand new cartridges/shock inserts since you can't rebuild them. -If your lucky enough you'll find yourself some Tein Superstrut Coilovers for $1000, then to rebuild them is $75 per shock which is way cheaper than TRD, but TRD is the best. So if you get lucky you can do the conversion for around $2,600. haha ya that's the cheapest if you can source and research effectively. check this link out all of your answers should be here. http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=28093 This post has been edited by BonzaiCelica: Jan 20, 2011 - 11:49 PM -------------------- Group buy to replicate Narrow E series transaxle parts

Would love to get some coilies for it but don't think i can stretch that far right now, and yeah we've got the same bad boiz around here with Civics and the like.
Not sure i was 100% clear on this, but i have two ST202s, one 94 JDM SSII (sadly not a red top ) and another UKDM ST202. Someone has managed to put a con rod through the bottom of the block in the SSII and its been left to rot for a while, so that's a no go. Bought it cheap for the LSD. Am I right in understanding that you're saying I need a new lower arm to make it fit, is this a different part to the ones on the SSIIs? That thread has some great info in it, thanks for that. I still can't quite picture in my head how it moves when the car is rolling though... thanks -nix |

In order to make everything from the ss setup fit, you'll need to make custom driveshafts. The shaft on a ss is slightly bigger then mcpherson, so it will not fit in the "normal" hubs. Other option is the complete ss setup with axles and e56 gearbox. If you go that way, the twin piston calipers are a bolt- on job.

if its a 94 ss2 then it most likely has the e56 geabox?. if so yeah you will need to take that gearbox with you and use the driveshafts and hubs, calipers, subframe, steering rack, arb probably easist just to transfer the lot, i'm not sure what the lock to lock is on a uk st202, but on the superstrut models it is 2.4 turns lock to lock so is quite a nice quick rack, you might also need to take the flywheel/clutch from the donor car to match the e56, or at least the clutch plate as the splines on the input shaft are different. if you keep an s54 box you'd probably need the drive shafts from a superstrut ss2 or ss3 that had the s54 gearbox.

you best get everything from a 96-98 SS-III
the trans/axel code for an LSD S54 is S54-06D. That 06D part is important. Doubtful your 94 SS-II has it, unless its got superstrut aswell -------------------- Mike W

Pretty sure it does have an e56, but its knackered... can't get it to engage into 5th or reverse, not really in the frame of mind to get a 'box refurbed. Used to have a SSII on the road, and if memory serves getting clutches can go into some serious money for them so would prefer to use the UKDM gearbox anyway.
Did the SS3 have the same gearbox and superstrut then? that would certainly save trying to find somewhere to modify/fabricate the shafts to fit. Can say with some certainty that the doner SSII has a slippy diff, from what i can tell its got all the factory extras from superstrut to 'leccy folding mirrors. |

so if the ss2 has superstrut then it has lsd.
swap the lot over if this is the case. hell u may even want to swap the motor or the head and the ecu, your UK one will have an EGR valve and a less aggressive tune than the JDM ecu. -------------------- Mike W
