what is the best way to go about converting to an all black interior?

can i take off the headliner and dye it black, or would it be less hassle just to
buy a black headliner from someone parting their car out?

i mean, to make it all black all i would need is the headliner and sunvisors right?

input is appreciated... i'm sure alot of people don't like the tan roof with the rest of
the interior being black. ha

1:There are no OEM black headliners
2:go to a parts store and get a can of vynal black spray paint, you can do your visors with it as well.

isn't there going to be a smell of fumes and paint if i just spray paint it with vinyl paint?

not trying to sound dickish, just asking.

you'll have to remove the headliner and then spray it...the smell will go away soon enough.

But honestly I would rather buy some nice fabric and some spray adhesive and just recover it. I'm sure the price would be comparable

i like your idea a little better.... i'd like to do it in some sort of leather like the material from vincent doggys seat covers so it would match nicely.

Yea, take it out and spray it, the leather SOUNDS good, but when you put it into play i dont think it would be cost feasible or come out well.

good points....

eh, i guess spraying it would be the cheapest and easiest route to go....

and if i took it all out and did it and let it sit in my garage for a few days it wouldn't smell too bad

Two ways of doing it. Ive done both. 1, remove the headliner, clean it, lay it out and spray it with a ton of Duplicolour vynal and fabric dye. Thats what i did with my headliner on my civic.

Took about 5 cans to do it, turned from light grey to jet black...

its actually black, but the flash makes it look alot lighter

OR

the other option is to remove the headliner, seperate the material from the reinforced cardboard backing, and reupholster it with new material. I did this on my girlfriend's (keroppi) old celica
the old headliner....

Installed

then for the visors, get some fabric and vynal dye to change the colour.

Should take maybe 2 hours if that if you do the reupholstering one...and if your gonna use anything for an adhesive, use 3M super77 spray adheasive.

Or if you like fleece, which is what Im going with, go to Wal-Mart and grab a flod for like $10 and some elmers spray adhesive.

Remove your head liner
unfold ur material and lay it on the headliner to assure proper length
start at one end pull back ur material showing ur headliner
Spary one end and begin laying ur material down smooth it out
Continue this til the headliner is completely covered
cut away any excess material on the edges, be sure to leave an 1 and hald to fold under it
After the adhesive has dried flip ur headliner over and working from one side to the other, spray the edges of it to fold ur excess material.
Cut ur holes as required and reinstall.

This my How-to guide. I've done it over 20 times now on numerous cars. Only with fleece though.

i've covered my headliner by using spray adhesive and a black cloth, and ive sprayed my buddies whole fabric interior with a mix of that inkjet refill ink + alcohol in a spray bottle.. that one cost ~$20 and did all his seats, headliner, carpet... came out very nice

What if we just seperated the fabric from the headliner backing, and painted the backing instead of re-upholstering?

... althought that plaid design looks wicked!

How much do you typically need for the fabric (yardage wise)

its like polystyrene almost, and its full of glue and imperfections.

I've got tomato red at the moment but i have in mind going black and tracing out white and red bits for a large TRD logo going diagonally across the roof RL to FR

the other idea i had in mind was straight down the middle TTE logo in red on black in white stitch
