Ok,
I began installing my alarm today and have a couple of questions. I have Coomer's wirin diagram http://www.6gc.net/misc/images/other/rs650...all_diagram.jpg but am not sure exactly where those wires are. I have removed the drivers side kick panel and have found about 4 different harness down there. For example at least 2 or 3 of the harness have a black and white wire. A specific example of what I'm taling about is Coomer says in his diagram for the starte output wire coming off the alarm should go into the "black/white wire @ ignition harness" how do i know which one of those harness is down there is the ignition one? Also in another post someone said "Door locks are negative trigger. In the left kickpanel blue/black is lock and blue is unlock. " What harness would this be in? Thanks Cormudgen This post has been edited by Cormudgen: Dec 14, 2003 - 4:53 PM |

The ignition harness is higher up than the kick panel, and is at the rear of your ignition switch. Here are a couple pics to help you out.
As far as door locks, I don't have the factory ones, so I'm not sure. If they're negative triggered though, when you lock your doors, the lock wire should give ground for a brief moment. When you unlock the doors, the unlock wire should give ground as well. You can use a multimeter to test these connections. If you've got more specific questions, just ask, and I'll do my best to help. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

You guys had to get those up-town fancy alarms. I got the Bulldog alarm from WM. Easiest install i ever did. Just hook the power wire to the battery and attach the alarm box. the run the led light through the firewall. End of story. Probly doesnt work as well as yours, but it beeps when i press the button so im happy.

Don't know about theirs, but my alarm unlocks the doors for me. There are also extra outputs for anything I want to add(like rolling a window/sunroof up/down...). Not to mention the starter kill(car won't start without the alarm being turned off).
All the extra wires are for the features. And installing it yourself is the best option if you are competent with electronics. Almost all shops use the same locations for their alarm installs, which just makes it easier for theives. Doing it yourself you can hide things wherever you feel like it. |

thanks, coomer. that was the info i needed. i hooked up everyhthing but the stuff that goes into that harness tonight and got my keyless entery working fine. decided to wait for your reply to do the igniton kill and what not. it was workin beautifulyh till just now when i left hom i noticed that i kicked a wire i left hagning. i didnt think i knocked loose so just tucked it in and kept driving. stopped somehwer for 5 min and then began the drive home. 5 min into the drive the lights started dimming and whatnot if i put it in neutral and hit brakes. figured to much power was getttin drawn so i just continuily downshifted instead of brakin all the way home. once i got home the battery was completly dead. i'm to tired now but am going to look into the culprit tommorw.
here is how i have it wired as far as power is concerned though Red:straight to battery +(with fuse) Yellow: to ignition fuse in drivers side pull panel(also have remote turn on for amp going here) Black, grounded to chasis anything wrong with that you see? like i said i havent investigated yet and intend to do so tommorw. i may hve just kicked something loose. cormudgen |

My next alarm will be better. I got mine for $40 back when uBid.com had more stuff on it(3 years ago). It's about time for a new one because the remotes are trashed and the horn is starting to go. |

If the battery is dead it sounds like the alternator isn't working. How that relates with the alarm I dunno. I haven't installed mine yet so I'm not very knowledgeable about it.

when workin i disconected the battery as not to get popped in the head with an airbag later that night i set the postive battey wire back on the termial to test: but never screwed it down apparently last night when all the probs happened the wire got bumped off b/c of riding over some train tracks. |

Like you said just be glad it wasn't something broken!
Coomer, you said you don't have factory locks. I'm getting ready to do this same thing with my alarm install. Any advice? Any tricks getting it to work with the alarm? |

For mine, I got the two-wire actuators, and they're incredibly simple to wire up. If you want a photo of how I mounted mine, I can get you one. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

That would be great if you have one handy, but don't take your door panels off just for that.
Thanks |

Thanks coomer!
Ok, one more ? I bought a SPAL lock kit. Each lock servo has 5 wires coming from it. One plug with 2 wires and one with 3. The 2 wire plug contains the actuator wires. When you apply power to them the actuator goes one direction. When you reverse the polarity it goes the other. While you apply current the actuator is still 'pushing or pulling'. I would assume it just needs to do this momentarily to get the lock over center then it should relax. The other 3 wires are a switch with one common terminal and one that goes to ground when the actuator is out and one thats closed when the actuator is in. There is also a little control box that everything plugs into but there are no control wires coming out of the box. Basically its designed to unlock both doors when you unlock one. I would like to maintain this functionality, but add a switch to lock/unlock and also I would like my alarm to be able to actuate the locks. The switch is easy, I think I just need a 2 way momentary rocker switch wired in with the switching plug. The alarm I'm not sure what to do with. Are its outputs for door locks just a momentary switching signal? Or does it actually have a reversing 12V output? The directions I got with the COMPUSTAR alarm are pretty much useless. (I can figure all this out on my own, but thought I would ask before I spend a lot of time working on it) Thanks! |

Ok, I pulled a good one. I came home for christmas with the intention of doing my alarm install over a couple days in our nice heated shop. But I forgot my shop manual. DOH! I think I can figure out most of the wires myself but I'll likely have questions over some of them. I'd appreciate it if you guys could help me out. I'm getting ready to go work on it again, I'll post some specific questions shortly.

John,
My locks only have two wires coming out of them, so I'm really not sure about the extra three wires, and what they do, but as far as wiring up those two lock/unlock wires to your alarm, this is the diagram I used: Also, about the door lock switches, I'm not sure, but if you find out, please let me know, as I'm going to be adding some door lock switches to my car soon. Sorry I'm not much help with the door locks, but if you've got other questions, post them and we'll try to help. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...
