Alright, I was driving my car and suddently it stopped. I've already had to boost my battery earlier this month but usually the alternator gives you power when the engine turns so I first thought it could be the problem, though, when it stopped, all the lights were lacking power. Like they were... ''weak''? So when the engine's off the battery gives you the power, but it can't be the reason why the car stopped.
So could my alternator be dead? Which means I'd be running on my battery's and when it ran out of power the engine stopped? That's what came up to my mind 1st, would you think of anything else?? My alternator is only 3 years old and is a genuine toyota part, it would suck to be already dead... |

test your voltage with the engine running, if its below 13v you have a problem with the alternator, the engine can run as low as about 10 volts before it finally cuts out, so you may have just not noticed

turn the car on...if you can...then on the positive terminal side of battery, pull that off...if car dies...it's your alternator...if still running...something else

also i noticed if the battery has a bad connection the car will die while driving (oddly...) so check the cables too.

Alright so I've unplugged the battery while the engine was running. Nothing happened, it kept on going. The I checked out the voltage and it was at 14.29V and after 2 minutes it dropped down to 14.21V ... Is that a big enough drop to mean anything or it's absolutly normal? I didn't test it for more than 2 minutes long because it was dark and I was with someone.

Haven't had a problem in about a week... No batery boosting, no loss of power, nothing. Hope it stays this way!
