I'm pretty sure that's not even a celica. It's a custom build with some celica body panels on it, doesn't look like there's anything resembling a celica aside from that.

It's rwd. There's litterally nothing on that car thats originally a celica other than a shell. I'm not ragging on it at all, i think its a great build, just saying it really shares nothing other than the outline.

I remember I used to have a built mustang i used to drag race. On the forums people would get excited when john ford would with nhra nationals and say its a mustang. It's really not just the name/body panels. If you go to the strip and look at those cars whether its a celica supra or mustang they are all strikingly similar. Only difference is usually whether they go with a 2jz or a turbo v8.

you know, I've always been curious to know when a car is transformed into a super tuned race car, when does it stop being the original car? so is this car still really a Celica? or is it just shaped like a Celica?

with that I do think this is cool smile.gif

its an official Celica Chassis only part altered of the chassis is the front (fender/hood/bumper) the entire rear frame is intact from what i can tell
the engine is that of a Supra (Celica birthed the Supra no matter what anyone says) in my eyes its a Celica Supra biggrin.gif lol
so its still respectable.

plus when the civic guys put integra/rsx/prelude engines they still see it as a civic dont get why a celica stops being a celica cus it got a heart transplant

i think the chassis makes the car after all, many cars share multiple parts and only the chassis is different and thats what sets them apart

its like the frs, it basically lost its toyota roots once they put the Subaru engine in it. And yes the front sub frame is completely altered.

he should of put a gt4 front end on that thing, also would helped more flow to the intercooler

Technically

Toyota owns a smal part of subaru
Thereby subaru is partially a Toyota company
Thereby there really isnt a lost of identity

Lol

When a car is modified beyond actually being that car anymore is subjective and varies from person to person. But, lets be honest here. The FR-S lost its Toyota roots when it produced more than 130 hp and was designed to be a fun driver's car. Over the course of the past 10-15 years, Toyota stopped building cars and has begun building appliances. Its a hard pill to swallow, but its the truth. Now they are hoping that they can find something that will rekindle the passion of driving that they have lost oh so many years ago and hope to get some drivers back into Toyotas.

With the FR-S, they're re-entering a market that they left years ago and it has changed markedly since then. They're no longer competing with civics, preludes, proteges, 240zxs, and eclipses. They're now fighting with miatas, mustangs, genesis, and 370Zs. They're trying to elbow their way back in and using everything that they can at their disposal as a wedge. So what if the Subaru boxer engine isn't a 2jz, it provides excellent power in a smaller package, providing a much lower center of gravity. I am personally, very excited that they are open enough to not stubbornly hold to old traditions, but instead use the best of what is available to them. I mean, their racing heritage isn't exactly something that you can proudly hang your hat on.

EDIT: Sorry, that came off as pretty confrontational and will likely derail the discussion. I love the work he put into the car and its awesome to see. In short, you can't create a 7 second car without completely gutting the car, no matter what car it is to begin with. I think he actually did an amazing job of keeping it as much of a celica as he did.

ya everybody knows toyota owns a bit of subaru. who said anything about a v6, were are strictly talking 4 cylinder. A 200hp boxer engine in a rwd, that just isn't going to cut it. that power was seen as a lot for a 4 cylinder back in the late 90's. so lets hope it has more.

this car is going to be compared to the s2000 in every way shape and form.

In my opinion this is a celica. It has the shape of a celica not like the nascar cars that the only thing they have that looks like the factory car is the grill, wich is a sticker.

On the plus side, its using the same mounting locations as other subaru engines, so it wouldnt be unheard of to quickly drop a WRX or STi engine into it That'll get you +265hp. But even so, who's to say that wouldn't cut it. its about the size of a miata and making about 75 more hp. It may be compared to the S2000 but they stopped making them 2 years ago, so they won't compete against them.

Actually, all of that puts subaru in a bit of a predicament in terms of their lineup. But thats a discussion for another day.

But wow, 7.46 sec. For comparison, thats faster than a stock GT could go 0-60 (8.4s) and more than twice as fast on the 1/4 mi. (16.4/83.8)
(I'm really trying to keep this on topic.)

EDIT: I'll continue the FR-S discussion on the Off-topic board if anyone wants
