Welcome to the board Soul and good to see you're from North Carolina; if you don't mind my asking, whereabouts in NC are you?
To answer your question you might want to take a look at stephen_lee's thread about dropping a V6 in his GT; he's using a 3VZ-FE from a Lexus ES300 and plans to turbo it as well. Also, snapshotgt's thread where he had a 1MZ-FE installed. Good luck! -------------------- Has no more Celicas

I got a 1998 celica gt 2.2 and I need to know what I would need to convert to a v6 turbo. What engine should I use and what do I need to convert You need to use the fancy search function we have on this site... - Use a 3VZ. I'm not going to tell you WHY you should use it. Do a google search and find that out. - Use a E153 transmission. Again, same as above. Do your research and find out why. - Single turbo or twin? You have two banks of exhaust, so you need to figure that out as well. - Engine management? What are you going to use? And what is the point of it all when you can do a 2GR + simple modifications and have 280+whp with stock Toyota reliability? Riddle me this. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

ok ill bite, just for information purposes on this thread....Why would you want to use an old 3VZ-FE that has an iron block and weighs a ton over an aluminum 1MZ-FE that makes 20 more HP and is so much lighter?

Iron holds up to the abuse of Forced Induction. The aluminum block on the 1MZ wont take it very well.

you are correct that an iron block will hold up better, however the 1MZ does have iron inserts in the cylinder walls. the pistons are the weakest point in the 1MZ.
Im gonna have to disagree with you, the 1MZ is a much better platform. newer technology, lighter, and later ones have VVT. other options are the 3MZ and of course the 2GR -------------------- 2001 Celica GT-S Turbo

I agree the 1MZ is a better motor (I am a bit bias...), but for someone looking for high HP goals with a turbo the 3VZ is a better starting platform.

3vz and 2jzge have very similar power outputs.
3vz with a stock rebuild will be better for boost than a any MZ engine with the same mods, as its stronger in stock form (not specifically the block, btw..) 1mz if built with foraged pistons and rods would be a better choice than a stock 3vz because of the fact it IS lighter -------------------- QUOTE "And, as always, your friendship, help, and dedication to the advancement of Texas Celica dominance is GREATLY appreciated. 2JZ-GE no not quite, the 3VZ-FE only makes about 150 HP and 180 TQ, the 2JZ-GE makes about 220 HP and TQ. I wont even bring the 2JZ-GTE up here

3VZFE gets 185/189 for years 92-93. Years 94+ got 200/209 hp/tq. With no mechanical differences, only a different tune. Fixing Toyota's ****ty Y-pipe has been proven to gain you at least 20hp, bringing it up to the same as the 2JZGE.
The truck version, the 3VZE, makes 150/180. I'm biased to this motor as it is my choice for swap. I've researched it for the last 3 years or so, reading any and all build threads I could find. Back to the topic, if you want to spend the least amount of $$ on the rebuild/swap/turbo, the 3vz is the way to go as it will handle more power with a simple stock rebuild, if you choose to rebuild it even. If you are willing to spend more $$$$, go for an MZ series block and rebuild with forged pistons and rods. This setup should have the ability get you more power than the 3vzfe, AND a better power to weight ratio, making it even faster, and maintaining the better weight distribution. -------------------- QUOTE "And, as always, your friendship, help, and dedication to the advancement of Texas Celica dominance is GREATLY appreciated. 335/317 wheel hp/tq on 9psi.
MR2 3VZFTE dyno run, with stock internals. 321/333 on a stock 2jzge (11psi boost?) All I did was a quick google search on both, so I may be wrong on THIS particular post. -------------------- QUOTE "And, as always, your friendship, help, and dedication to the advancement of Texas Celica dominance is GREATLY appreciated. There was no such thing as a 94+ 3VZ-FE for the US, FYI.

I know the US only had the 3VZFE in 92/93. It made it hard to find a deal on a donor car lol. The only diff was the tuning, anyway. You can import whole 94+ 3VZFEs or just use the 94+ ecu, or stand alone.
