I used to rock the pink dildo shift knob.
Only had it about a week. Currently using a TRD replica. -------------------- "Employ your time in improving yourself by other men's writings, so that you shall gain easily what others labored hard for." -Socrates. Even Socrates told us to use the search button!

Aren't those "Bubble" shift knobs the completel opposite of what a Shrot throw does?

Aren't those "Bubble" shift knobs the completel opposite of what a Shrot throw does? Why would the knob have anything to do with a short throw set up? A proper short throw set up has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the height of the knob. Momo weighted knob w/ 7th gen short throw. Only had it about a week. Currently using a TRD replica. I will be swapping out to this ^^ when my car is back on the road. This post has been edited by KAOS: Mar 21, 2012 - 9:29 AM -------------------- |

That is where OEM mirror controls are if you do not have Power Windows.
My setup - stainless steel that I turned on a manual lathe at my old work. After getting the knob made and tapped for Toyota's thread pitch I had it nitrided, which gives it the gunmetal finish. Weighs in at just over 1.5lbs. Excuse the iPhone shots... -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

A proper short throw set up has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the height of the knob. Well if your hand was at the top it would have to travel farther from 1st to 2nd, then if it had a OEM or shorter shift knob. Would it not? Thats actually a common misconception. With that logic; simply chopping the top off the shift rod would achieve the same effect. Its not about how the shift "feels" (your hand movement on the shifter), its about changing the fulcrum point so that more of the distance traveled is happening in the "background" so to speak... Here, this might be able to explain it better than I can: http://www.twmperformance.com/faq/#1 -------------------- |

Sweet thanks Ill take a look.
Maybe I got that idea from hearing about peaopl sawing off the top of their stock shifters to make a "short shifter" I guess thats not actually shortening the throw then, correct? -------------------- -Protection mode, For when your amp tries to blow its load. 1995 Toyota Celica GTS - Daily Driver 1999 Chevy Cavalier - Winter Beater 1994 Honda Civic CX Hatchback - Dead My Celica! |

I really dig it. I was invited to Microsoft's roadmap conference up in Redmond a couple weeks ago and got to play with this Samsung Series 7 Slate (what an alliteration!)... So I bought a few and installed the consumer preview on it. It's snappy and the UI is nice. Remote desktop is MUCH better now, and Metro UI is great... there are problems with little things that go along with it being an unfinished OS, but it's promising. Microsoft is putting out a lot of nice programs and new features in the next year or so that as a Sys Admin I can't wait for. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

I'm looking for a custom one that is thinner in material, shiny like the oem boots, and has less texture as much as possible. -------------------- 94 Celica GT

Double like... I super dig this. How was it made? Is it dense wood or does it feel light? Well I made it from a wooden ball from arts and crafts store. Then I just used some fine grit sandpaper made it smooth then stained it. After that I just drilled out a bigger hole in the ball, that was a bit smaller than the shifters diameter and screw it on. Forgot where the locking screw was from, but its similar to ones that come with other ball knobs to lock them in. As for weight it's light, but the feel is just right for my short shifter. This was the last knob I changed since I did this since I liked the look of it so much, and I have been using it for over two years now. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_S...u=SPM5671140203 < I used something similar to this from Joanne fabrics. Why I did this is due to me being bored shopping with my girlfriend, saw the knob and it kind of just seemed like a good idea. p.s. at the moment I'm still working on a bootless cover. Similar how some cars just have a cutout plate that shows the shifting path. I'll postt updates when ever I'm not studying. p.s. at the moment I'm still working on a bootless cover. Similar how some cars just have a cutout plate that shows the shifting path. I'll postt updates when ever I'm not studying. I had done this last year but found out that the throw distance wasnt far enough to get a nice large gate like this The pattern would need to be higher up on the stick (which would look ridiculous because it would just be this big aluminum box sticking up from the shifter hole. I'm curious to see what your results are. The other solution I had thought about doing was to do an aluminum plate, then figure out the max throw positions and then CNC a hole to that max diameter, and find some kind of thin rubber grommet that would fill up that space and allow for the shifter to move freely still -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

When I finally have time and materials I can get started on testing out the pattern. My goal for this was to make a low profile cover to make it feel a bit more tidy in the interior. I did notice the range of the throws are quite short, so I might end up designing something less traditional and more of an arcade joystick esque design haha. http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick/attribute...s/joy_bunch.jpg I'll try different patterns out eventually. Thanks for the great tip. Yeah that kind of style is what I think is the only alternative to the stock boot sucks -------------------- 1995 GT::::Diffusing the Situation エキサイティングカーレーシングチーム! march 2010 COTM : 6GC feature 2014 : january 2015-2016-2018 COTM |

^ whered you get your custom shift boot? looks like the material is not like the thicker drier more texture gaiter types. mines not so good. I'm looking for a custom one that is thinner in material, shiny like the oem boots, and has less texture as much as possible. Advance Auto Parts. i liked everyone's shifters (well i wouldn't have the bubbly "dildo" shifter but i like that y'all have the balls to do it)
i got pulled over once and the trooper instantly noticed mine. after asking me about it and lecturing me about having my front license plate on my windshield he let me go. i guess just copy and paste the link http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1...mp;l=bcd288394c |

actually i was thinking an airsoft gun or super soaker but id prolly still get in trouble with the cops around here.
i like those rca jacks in that pic. mabey someone will know about this problem. when i shift sometimes its like the gears dont mesh right. i guess it could be synchros but could it also be loose shift linkage? |

heh heh heh....222222.2 is close enough. if i wanted to do the synchros myself how hard would it be? im pretty mechanically inclined and was planning to take the trans out to do other work anyway
The faster i shift the more it wants to make grindy noise. also if i dont totally slam the clutch pedal down it'l grind for certain gears This post has been edited by eldrewado: Apr 9, 2012 - 11:34 PM |

I just need to swap in a manual so I can get a plethora of fancy knobs. I think I still have a leather wrapped MOMO knob laying around from one of my old Integra's ...

^^ double this. I'd love to hack into the auto stick but it's too much work for me and I don't care for messing with it. Tip. Remove the little plastic washer below stock shifter(under boot) and screw shifter down a few more turns to shorten shift a little bit extra. IDK if thats real, never heard of a TRD cigarette lighter cover but it just looks like aftermarket or a decal only.

not genuine TRD (wish it was but i still like it) its just a black anodized aluminum cigarette lighter cap for cars with the TRD engrave, got it off ebay a while back they had a bunch of different ones with different car brand, logos and no smoking ect.
