So I just finally got my engine back from the machine shop. woot.gif ...Of course, being paranoid like I am, I installed the new bearings and threw some plastigauge on each main journal to check clearance. According to the Haynes manual it's supposed to be between 0.0006" and 0.0013". Well, after torquing down the caps ( in proper order, multiple passes to 44 ft./lbs ), it looks like my oil clearance is between 0.0015"-0.002" across the board.

So basically, I just need some advice on how severe of an issue this actually is, and if I should be taking it back to the machine shop to have it re-done "right". confused.gif

Edit: Just wanted to add that I did the measurement 100% dry... no oil under or on the bearings or journals (of course super careful not to turn the crank in this state). I'd much rather hear that I did something wrong (if indeed I have) than incur additional machine shop delays or end up on a wild goose chase!

Specs are there for a reason, but being such a small amount off I wouldn't think it'd cause a problem. I'd wait until someone experienced with engine builds comments though.

you are fine. 1.5 to 2 thousands is ok.

this is right out of the Toyota Manual, i dont trust Haynes or Chiltons

Awesome, thanks Smaay. I decided to rebuild anyway with the clearance I had, but I had to order a new set of bearings... When I torqued the caps down the first time I apparently allowed one solitary grit of something to be between one journal and its bearing, which put a burr in the bearing material. frown.gif

Anyway, that's really a load off my mind!
