I know this isn't the best rebuild kit for the 7A out there, but where could I find something similar in better quality?

I'm on my phone, but I'll search that # later tonight. What is it exactly?

The EKTO29MPX is a HP engine rebuild kit. It includes the following:

Complete Gasket Set
MLS Head Gasket
ROSS/Wiseco Forged Pistons
(81, 81.5, 82mm bore) and
(any comp ratio)
Performance Rings
Performance Wrist Pins
TOGA HP Main Bearings
TOGA HP Rod Bearings
Timing Belt
Freeze Plugs
Thrust Washers

For a few bucks more you can have a Toga High Vol. Oil Pump, but I'd go with the OEM one.

Just to be certain, if I get 0.04" oversized pistons, that's diameter, right? If so, what size bearings should I buy to go with them?

If you don't need oversized pistons (in the case of the cylinder walls being good to go with a hone) I recommend you don't get them. Later on something might happen and you have already used all the wall meat you could safely use. If you also plan on going some kind of forced induction later on perhaps, having stock bore is best.

But yes, .040" means 1mm larger in diameter, so you would be I believe 82mm instead of 81mm stock. That kit also lets you choose piston static compression. So you could go 9.0:1 for a decent FI build, or 9.5:1 for a stock rebuild, or maybe 10.0:1 for a little more compression for an mild N/A build.

Mind you, that kit does not include a water or oil pump I believe. You should contact them with the part # of the kit and ask what exactly the kit will bring. Granted you'll get good quality parts that meet or exceed OEM specs for a decent price.

Yeah, I figured that'd give me trouble down the road. I was just curious, so I thought I'd ask. So you're talking about the $900+ HP kit, right? What about the $455 Bronze kit? Is that one not good enough? Certainly seems better than the cheap eBay one that I linked. I just want an OEM-spec rebuild. Maybe I'll advance timing 10 deg or so and start running premium to get a little pep, but that's all.

Hmm, ~$115 less than the other one and only doesn't have a water pump. However, that's not a big issue; my current water pump only barely has 20k miles on it, as does my timing belt and tensioner pulley.

With only 20K on it, should be ok. Though if you do feel like getting one anyway, RockAuto has one for $18 that includes the gasket.

Damn, that's a cheap water pump. The rebuild kit comes with a new belt, so I might as well spend the extra all of $20 to get a new water pump.

the hp kit is if you looking to do more work to the motor, also notice it comes with forged pistons 20 or 40 over at any comp you want. i also believe the bearings will hold up better to more power as well. im looking to get one pretty soon.

thats alot of overkill, what exactly are you trying to do? unless you are planning on making huge power, you dont need aftermarket ppistons. are your internals damaged?

bearings have nothing to do with piston size

Putting in new pistons when rebuilding is not overkill Jeff... It is not required when rebuilding but if you can for a decent price (like hector car) you defiently should as the OEM skirts may have worn, or the pins, or who knows what. Do it Hector thumbsup.gif

i didnt say new, i said aftermarket. why spend a ton of money for wiseco pistons when you can get .020 OEM pistons for about 60 bucks each. yes if there is wear then those should be used.

I was going to embark on rebuilding the motor, but I found a local shop that's been here for a very long time that sells rebuilt motors. They have a totally rebuilt 7A with 0.020 pistons, new oil/water pumps, new timing belt/tensioner pulley, new rings, new bearings, new valves, new stem seals, new F/R seals, and all new gaskets for $1,000 and it comes with a 1yr/12,000 mile warranty. Seeing as how I'd be spending $850-$900 rebuilding myself, I don't mind fronting an extra $100 for piece of mind and a warranty. I'll be putting it in myself, though! Staying in the Celica game!
