I believe they do. I'm using 1 quart of Syncromesh and two quarts of Mobil 1 75W-90. I've been told that Royal Purple makes a difference as well, but I'm too afraid to run the stuff. I've heard too many horror stories about seals failing.

Yup, royal purple synthetic blew out my oil cooler gasket, oil pump gasket and rear main seal all within a week of changing the oil.

Any autoparts store, Advance Auto, Autozone and Pep Boys usually carry it.

So whys everyone use 75w90 when the S54 calls for 80w90?

As for the whole Royal Purple Synchromax thing, I think the issues are because people use the "manual transmission" version which is actually for manuals that call for ATF. Its a lot thinner and breaks down under heat easier. They do however make synchromax 75w90 (and 75w140 for all you that like to watch out for high temps) which I assume would be fine our cars.

Reline MT-90 is right, a lotta Mr2 guys swear by it. Personally, I just bought the cheap stuff. $5.99 a quart. Lol. I did however buy a quart of royal purple synchromax 75w140 to mix with it.

What's your source? Every source I've ever seen for the S54 says 75w-90. Then again, my car is missing the owner's manual so I've never seen what it specifies.

Either way, 75w-90 and 80w-90 are close enough. You'll never hear "You need a transmission rebuild since you were using 75 instead of 80." And most guys here on the boards and the MR2 guys have been running 75 long enough to prove that there are no harmful effects.

Alldata and double checked with O'Riley's when I went in to pick up a clutch alignment tool.

It's funny cause O'Rileys said "75W90 except for 2.2L, use 80w90" and that was while looking up under the GT. But as you stated theres not much of a difference at all between 75 and 80.

Weird. Like I said, I don't have an owner's manual to reference, and all sources I've seen online specify 75W-90, apart from the ones that only say API GL-3.
