Does anyone know what manual transmissions came with the American Celica GT? I have a 95 Celica Convertible 5 speed and was wondering which transmission I have. Thanks.

I figured it was an open diff but during high rpm shifts it barks both tires and when I've had it on a lift at work the driver side wheel will rotate along with the passenger side at a pretty good pace, that's why I was asking.

There is a variation of the S54 trannsmission that does have an LSD. You if you find the tranny code, it's pretty easy to tell an S54-06D would be an LSD. These were not factory installed on any USDM celicas, however it is possible one found it's way sometime in your car's lifetime.

Seeing both wheels spin is not a good test. An open diff can still spin both wheels. The factory LSD will not lock the wheels without pressure on both wheels. You may have an aftermarket LSD. You could always pop an axle out to check your diff out or drive a different Celica that you know has an open diff. I only feel my LSD when I'm accelerating through a corner.

Does your car experience any under-steer when accelerating through a turn?

If I push it hard enough, yes. For the most part it pulls itself nicely through the corners.

I know I have an open diff, but depending on the corners and how I take them, the car will both under and over steer at times.

Its pretty common for our cars to spin both wheels, even with an open diff...theres a vid of jenns car leaving a nice long burnout years ago back in the 5sfte days floating around somewhere
