Hi 6GC owners!
So I've been working on changing the clutch on my celica but I ran into a problem. Could someone help me identify the name of this part (this is on the transmission, towards the back)? But more importantly, how do I take it off? There doesn't feel like a release button where I can just pull it off.. There is also 3 screws and a small bolt holding it, but I'm very hesitant to take those off. Should I take those screws off? How would I go about unplugging this part? Looks like the speedsensor to me. Never took it off though

i see some screws there, but it should come out as any other plug? if not the sensor for speed, is the reverse sensor,

Speed sensor. It takes some effort but it will unplug.

just take a flat head screw driver, theres a tab on the back side of the plug (to the left in the pic behind the wires) just push the flat head against it and pull at the same time.. like richee said it will take little effort but it will come out.

Thanks everybody! I started taking one of the little screws off last night. But then when I really thought about it, there's no way that they would design it like that.... So I'll try cleaning it off with the brake cleaner, and pushing in a flathead screwdriver. I guess it's not going to be fun to take off....

no no no, do not use a screwdriver. just pinch it at the wires and pull up. look at the TPS sensor, its the same style plug. Not sure if you ever have to deal with them in so cal... but the weather ruins those connectors over 10+ years in the north. A lot of times you can push it down the entire way and the locking mechanism wont even budge. A lot of other times the tab just snaps right off because they are so brittle. Here in North Texas they are brittle as hell. I always push down the tab with a screwdriver and then I start wiggling the plug back and forth while pulling it with my other hand.
There is definately an art to removing the plugs without breaking anything but you will get it |

oh they get plenty brittle here too, but using s screwdriver is just looking for trouble.

Squeeze tab with pliers, use screw driver between sensor and connector to start moving off, then once its cleared the lock tab it should wiggle off. Sometimes I need use to use a pick to lift the clip off the tab then use the screw driver for leverage. I find that dousing the connection in silicone spray lube after cleaning it with brake cleaner usually helps. I've even had to go so far as to gently heat some with a heat gun to un seize them! Luckily never on a Toyota, just an old Ford from the 80's. The plastic halves had melted together from heat and I had to un-melt them a little.

I finally got it off after dosing it with some brake cleaner and WD-40. The WD-40 worked like a charm and it came right off after that. The screw driver method didn't work out very well, all it really needed was alot of cleaning and lube.
