My check engine light came on and I tested it. I got a code 12. I've researched it a bit and I think it means that no RPM signal going from the distributor to the ECU. Is that correct? How would I fix this?

Probably means the distributor has eaten itself, as that's been the case every time I've seen someone with code 12. Take off the cap and give it a look.

+1. That's what it was when I had a code 12. It took out the coil as well. I was broke at the time, so I grabbed a junkyard distributor and a new coil. All was well after that. Check under the cap first as was mentioned above.

Ok I'm sure I need a distributor. Which brand should I go with Cardone or BECK/ARNLEY ?

Both are reputable brands, I suppose whichever is the cheaper of the two.

I thought Cardone quality has fallen? Maybe I was mistaken.

I haven't heard of anything. I've used both brands before with no problems.

I got a remaned Toyota from O'Relieys for pretty cheap when my dizzy pickup chewed itself up. It was under the name Import Warehouse or something like that.

Relaxed distributor and coil, didn't shut off. Took it in and apparently it's the ecu.
