Sups guys,
Looking to buy an intake for the celica vert and was wondering what's a great brand to get for a reasonable price. What kind of intakes are you guys running and how well is the performance/mpg? Thanks! |

I have a 5sfe and the only branded aftermarket intake I know of is the weaponR dragon intake or the injen shortram. It gave me better throttle response but there weren't any noticeable power Or mileage difference.

I made my apexi one from the weapon r pipe and then an apexi filter Required two couplers though instead of 1

I like my weaponR but I just don't like how close it sits to the battery and the fact that its hardly pointed towards the hole where the air flows in. Haha.

I ordered the $28 one off ebay and will probably switch filters depending on quality plus it had free shipping. Going to custom build a cold air box as shown in the how-tos.

The only way you're going to maintain power is to make a cold air box to go with it, that or move the filter down into the fender arch. The best option for making power would be to put the filter in an area where cold air is forced into it. Though that'd require body modification or putting the filter in an area susceptible to sucking in water. With a stock 5S those gains would be marginal at best and not worth it. Believe it or not the people who designed all of these cars knew what they were doing. If you think about it the stock units are cold air boxes, but with a panel filter. Most factory boxes even have ducting that draws air from the bottom of the car. So contrary to popular belief, odds are you're better off with the factory intake. More noise doesn't equate to more power. If you're just wanting the sound you can remove the resonator.

The only way you'll get some power out of a 5s is mod the cams along with I/H/E. Or go turbod. The weak spot of our 5s is in the intake and exhaust ports. Thanks for the quick responses guys!
So basically getting an aftermarket intake is a little useless unless you're modding the above mentioned.. In regards to more power.. & the same for exhausts.. As to a really good (not ricey sounding) deep sound, what exhausts are you guys running? |

Magnaflow or Flowmaster in the stock diameter would make for a good sound, well as good as a 4 cylinder will sound anyway. I personally plan on using Magnaflow if I ever do the exhaust on mine. Your options would be a straight through muffler or something with baffles. Obviously a straight through would provide for better performance, but something with baffles is better at removing rasp that is ever so present in 4 cylinder engines. Either way as long as you stick with Magnaflow or Flowmaster and stay the hell away from all of the fart cannons you'll be ok.
