I know that our celicas use struts. These are on ebay KYB GR2 Shocks
I am looking for good quality suspension and I have read on here that KYB's are really good. My question is; Are these what I am looking for? I'm not sure because it says shocks and we use struts. Any help appreciated Jeremy |

We use a combination of shocks and struts. In the front, you change the shocks and use the stock strut assembly, and in the rear, you get whole struts from KYB that replace the entire strut assembly.

if you're looking for a good stiff strut for a good stiff set of springs the gr2's aren't the way to go.... my 1.5" drop (90 corolla) the struts are too tall and too soft, though i'm guessing they're the only thing giving me a halfway decent ride.... the camber plates made the car quite rough

No, actually they're both struts. It would be a shock if it didn't have a spring and didn't support the weight of the vehicle. Our car has no such thing....therefore, all struts. |

I was about to say the same... hehe Anyways, they are good, but they're only made as stock replacements... so ride quality isn't gonna be significantly different from the stock struts (a little bit better at most)... if you lower your car... they're really no different from the stock struts... they'll just feel better because they're newer... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... Who says you even have to upgrade struts if you lower your car with springs and such. Typically, you'll only want spend money on adjustables and such if you're gonna really *need* them... Konis aren't cheap.. around 200 a piece or so... but still, if you're just gonna lower your car a bit with springs... upgraded struts will mostly be a bit of extra cream on top. It's not a necessity. If you're gonna slam your car with coils, or gonna go with a race set-up, then spending the extra cash on adjustable struts would be good if you want to maintain a decent ride... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... you can replace the whole strut assembly or buy the strut refills. i replaced the whole thing it's a little easier, took 20 min. to do both (front), but i would recommend you replace the strut mounts also. the refills are cheaper, it is just the tube with the piston. the pack comes with a threaded washer that locks the tube inside the strut housing. you have to take the spring off like always, then the rubber boot, there is a nut on the top side. clamp the strut, not too tight, then use a pipe wrench to take the nut off (left hand thread) watch for the fluid that will pour out. take out all the washers and pieces from the housing. then pour the recommended cc of trans fluid into the housing, slip in the tube, then cap with the threaded nut. that's it. by the way 5cc's=1tsp. it's not hard either just takes a few min. longer, but it is cheaper. sorry for the long post. if you want to do this and need help, let me know.

I was thinking of buying the Eibach springs that lower the car an inch. Then some new struts.
So you are saying that if I don't want adjustable stuff, then just go with OEM replacements? |

I'm saying do what you want. New KYB struts are just that... new. They're really no different from OEM struts. They'll feel better because they're new. Adjustables will be the ones that make a difference, but they're really expensive and you should buy them only if you're rich, you *need* them for some reason (ie: racing, etc...), or for some other reason... do as you will. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl...
