Can the stock shock absorbers handle -35-40mm lowering?

They can, but they will blow eventually.
I ran Tien S-techs 1.9" Front (~48mm) and 1.5 (~38mm) rear for about 4 months on stock shocks before they started clunking.

What if you really slow down on bumps and other stuff on road which makes your shocks smash down? Does this longer the age of the shocks?

And what is the maximum lowering what stock shocks can take?

I've been rocking twin s techs for about a year on stock struts an mine are still working just fine
I just go slow over tracks an try to avoid potholes

Just depends on how many miles are on the stock struts. If they're due for replacement anyhow lowering springs will just exacerbate the problem. Might as well replace both at the same time, it's cheaper in the long run if you're paying to have it done.

I always replace the struts/shocks at the same time. I'm lowering the car to get better handling, why wouldn't I want fresh stuff in there is my mentality.

Same thing with mounts too. At the end of the day, I don't like half-assing my suspension, but it's your car. You're gonna do what you want to do.

if you half-ass it, you'll have to take it apart and do it again afterwards.
might as well do it right the first time right?

It's been asked before and the answer was no.
Look at Megan Racing street series coilovers. People are having great results with them. Street EZ are a bit cheaper, if you don't want to spend that much.

Thats about when I installed mine, and they didn't last long.
Honestly, you're better off going coilovers.
By the time you do springs, struts, and the mounts, you're going to be just shy of the price of coilovers.

When I did mine, i put s techs on stock struts, then 4 months later had to replace the struts and mounts (mounts were just old, not worn from lowering) and it was close ot the cost of coilovers. Had I known this when I did it, I would have gone straight to coilovers.

Then stay with stock springs and shocks while you save up for either springs + new struts or coilovers.

If you can't buy anything now, why force it? It's your safety. It's not like we're talking about GT-4 spoiler vs eBay Aluminum Spoiler here...

Coilovers. I regretted spending money on a lowering spring/Koni strut setup

Mines got 198,000miles on it an still on the original shocks an no problems yet

If you know how to shop around springs and struts will come in at half of what the cheapest coil-overs cost. If you're happy with -1.5" go springs, if you want to drop more go coil-overs.

+1, I was riding on AG lowering springs with stock struts for about 25-30k miles. I'm pretty sure the previous owner had driven on it for more than 10k too. Lol. My shocks were perfectly fine when I took them off.
