Ok I'm on the verge of buying a 94 GT or GTS but before I blow like 9 grand Canadian I need to know how much I can upgrade this beast. I'm a full time student so I dont have lots of cash but I'm good with cars and am going to do all of my own work, a few weeks ago I was considering a 2g Talon or a 95 integra but They dont have the looks of the celica. My #1 concern is performance though, so I was wondering is there any good place to start on a budget but without skimping on anything. When I was looking at Talons I came across this site
http://www.jumptronix.com/2g_go_faster/ It has a pretty good layout and I know its not done but it does a good job of explaining all of the mods and gains. I'd like to know how much power I can get out of the 6g GT with like 2 grand invested into it, I think the 3s-gte swap is out of my price range but id like to know if there is a way to get around 250 hp on my budget and Id like to know if there is a site like the 2g DSM one above for the celica that has good info on the mods and theyre effects |

On your budget I simply don't think it's possible to achieve 250 horsepower. The Celica isn't made to be a straight line car, so it's tough to make it fast without doing an engine swap or adding a turbo to your 5S-FE. If you're really just interested in a fast car, I honestly wouldn't get a sixth gen Celica, because they do everything so well except for go fast. If you could save some more money, then you could do a 3S-GTE engine swap and then your car would be very fast.

Coomers right, when I bought my first Celica (3SFE engine)
the cars looks made a statement - "fast", in reality I was disapointed by the lack of straight line speed but I soon began to realise there are other aspects to it, its handling for the most part. Even then I still felt I couldn't spend enough on this engine to make it fly. Thats when I switched to GT-4 |

Ooooooooooooook, so what kind of gain in performance can I get with like pro tune up first, a CAI, a Catback exhaust, performance clutch, (performance platinum plugs and new magnecor wires since it'll have over 90000 km ) lightened fly wheel, underdrive pullys and god willing new more agressive camshafts/adjutable cam gears. I'm not buying the 6g for its speed Im buying it for the look, the handling and the fact that in Ottawa there are like 5 of them, so I want to stand out from the crowd of civics, integras, preludes and any domestic piles of crap. I just want to be able to back up the cars looks. So any Ideas what the above will get me, Ive looked around and a stock GT should make 1/4 mile in 16.3s, i'd like to get into the low 15s high 14s, at least that way i'll have some drag cred, plus im going to use the car for autox and amateur rally so like you guys said this cars good in handling so its well suited for those.

I don't know what the cams will get you but with everything else you should be able to hit high 15's. The ging rate for a GT is around 16.7-17.3. I know that it's said that it should be in the 16.3 range but not many gt's are in that zone. Before I got the 5 speed put in I couldn't get out of the 17's for anything.

With your budget.
Intake. 150-200 Exhaust. 250-400 Header. 200 Plugs. 40-60 Wires. 130-150 Under drive pully. 200 Aftermarket clutch. 300-400 Short shifter. 200 If you go that route and spend the max of waht I have listed you should have spent about $1810. This should give you a car worth at best 16.00. Thats atleast what I'm shooting for. This is the exact settup I have now. If I were your I would set aside another 2000 and get a set of Wisco pistins, Web cams regrinds (regrinds your stock cams for wigher lift and longer duration), Pauter rods and a good P&P. All that should set you at around 14.5-15.0 (or so I hope) The next step would be a turbo settup. (All of the above are my plans over the next year. Turbo kit is alnost 1/2 complete) -Bryan- -------------------- Member of Team 5sfTe

He could just save all of that money and drop in a 3S-GTE and then upgrade that with the remaining money. If you're willing to save your money and wait, that'd probably yield more power than doing step by step upgrades to the 5S-FE. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

for a good 3sgte swap expect $4000-5000 by the time you are done.
as for the gen of the engine... try and get the 3rd gen of the 3sgte... If your really lucky try and get a R/C of the engine... really limited edition, about 2,500 made. also try and get one out of a 6th gen it make the swap a little easier to do but a 3sgte out of a 5th gen works really good. Also you don't really need the full clip... it helps but is not nessassary...If you want any true gains from the turbo install a front intercooler the jz22 supra one fits well into the front of the 6th gen... using a front intercooler will also allow you to use the stock hood. -------------------- 99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =) |

Thats way too much, my budget is 2000 Canadian about 1350 US, even if I save up It'll be a while, by the way I bought a silver 1995 GT the other day so Im really anxious to see what I can do to make it faster, although, I've been driving this thing non stop and its amazing, quick starts, perfect turns, I mean like 90 degree turns at 90 km/h, wow Its better than I though, but to afford it It cost me all of the money I had saved, its taken me like a life time to save for this (I'm 17) so saving another 5000 US is out of the question, the reason I want the straight line speed is because around here thats all ne one does, Id personally like to do rally but everyone I know drags, there are a few preludes/integras/civics/talons/mustangs/firebirds that i'm looking to beat, they all seemed scared as **** of my car when they saw it but I havent raced ne one yet, ne Ideas what I can do on about 1350 US that would make my car as fast as it looks. Ill get some pics up soon

Bryan already posted a good list of the stuff you can do on your budget. But let me reiterate, the 5SFE is an economy engine, the only real way to make your car fast is to swap the engine out. Otherwise, those Talon TSi's, Eclipse GS-T/Xs, Mustang GTs, and Firebird WS6s are gonna eat you for lunch. My advice, add your basic mods but forget about drag racing, Celicas were not designed for straight line speed, our cars HANDLE, have fun with it.
