Coomer is having trouble getting onto the site because of the nameserver not updating yet, this is what he would like to let everyong know about the new updates he has spent months workin on! enjoy!!
Fully Recoded Backend The entire backend, including the database connectivity, login system, forum integration, and more, has been completely recoded from scratch, to alleviate many of the problems with the old backend. More Robust Photo Uploads Photo uploads should now be faster due to using native PHP functions for dealing with most of the photo processing. Also, if a photo is uploaded that is not a valid photo, it will not upset the other photo uploads, and the site will let you know which photos didn't work. Also, resized photos should generally be much better quality than they previously were. Previous and Next Photo Links Now when you view a photo for a how-to article, part, or a member's uploaded photo, you'll be able to easily go to the previous or next photos with one click. Past Featured Rides Page There is now a page which displays all of the past and the current featured ride. This page is linked to on the intro page, and is available here. Optimized Members' Rides Listing The Members' Rides section has been heavily optimized, so that the list of members will now load much quicker than it used to. Average query time has been reduced from around eight seconds to around one-fifth of a second. -------------------- Believer, you'll leave her, in leaving them all No but I don't buy it Like anything you do, as anyone you are Cause I'm... Now that I can finally access the site again, I'm curious as to whether or not you guys like it more or less, and what can be done to make the site better. Everything should be working correctly now, so if anything isn't, please let me know.
Thanks, and enjoy! -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Beautiful color scheming. One thing. The 04 area. It's really bland, and a really big open space. But man, this rocks!

Thanks for the comments guys. You're very right Akimbo, and we planned to get some opinions from you guys on what should go up there. We used to have the main navigation, featured ride, and latest news up there, but decided that it was best to put it down lower with the sidebar and on the main page. Tim came up with an excellent idea to put a list of upcoming events in that top area. The moderators would find threads about meets and things like that, and if all of the information was set in stone, we could post the event, date, and a link to the thread up there, so that it'd get more exposure. Also, we thought about keeping just the featured ride information up there, as for now it's only on the intro page. Other ideas included random photos of members' Celicas or having a poll setup in that space, that would change every two weeks or so. What do you guys think would be best, and why? Also, if you think of anything else that could go up there, we'd love to hear about it. -------------------- New Toyota project coming soon...

Could we see how a "Popular thread" or maybe "Hottest topic" thing would go in that area? Or maybe links to Meets or Group Buy threads? Who knows, just ideas. Edit: The random images, maybe you could put up a bunch of random images of ALL the members? And have each image link to their profile? This idea came to me when I read the thread about the S2000 taillight conversion and who's car it was. This post has been edited by Akimbo: Feb 1, 2004 - 6:40 PM -------------------- |

Can't make it random from all the images.. you'd have to download each selected image.. it'd kill even the fastest connections, not to mention 6gc's bandwidth. Unless, there's some code that I don't know about that allows a random image from a folder to be displayed in the selected area.. that'd be a wicked cool code..

Oh, and about the random images in the title area...that wouldn't work so well, because everyone tends to upload non-Celica photos and things like their signature in their profile. It could be done without loading every single image on the site though Hym3n, because all the random image processing and stuff like that is done server-side, before the html is ever sent to the user's browser.

Yeah It looks quite good coomer. About the big empty space. I like the idea of most "popular" thread, or most recent post, from each of the main forums. After all, 95% of the times you visit the mainpage you head straight to the forums..
