Tried to open up the Figure 8 link today and this is what it looks like inside ...
Its not a ball joint ... Its the same for the centre part of the superstrut lower arms .. it knocks due to worn out plastic housing of the stud in it (freeplay) .. Will try to machine a custom teflon housing to remove the freeplay ... Have fun discussing ... ITS NOT A BALL JOINT This post has been edited by xMika: Jan 25, 2014 - 7:42 AM |

Considering the work involved, replacing them with new ones is alot easier. They dont cost a fortune unlike the lower suspension arms

Considering the work involved, replacing them with new ones is alot easier. They dont cost a fortune unlike the lower suspension arms exactly the other two arms are the expensive ones! this pic and video above is of the control arm that has 3 attachment points on it, bushings however you want to call it. this bushing should be moving around at all but has to be solid. The component that goes out is the figure 8 and the middle part of the lower arms .. they have the same construction .. moving ball/spherical joints seldom wears .. the knocks occur due to worn out plastic housing thus causing freeplay ..
