car will not turn over....sometimes Options

Hey I have done a search on this topic and I didn't find anything usefull. Anyway my girl friend has a 6th gen and sometimes her car wont turn over, it has happened twice once she stalled out in the middle of the road after the car was warm and once in the morning starting for the first time of the day. All the lights will come on and everything works but when she turns the key to the start position and nothing happens, it stays just as if it was on the run position. Eventually it will turn over and start right up but it is kinda embarrassing to be in the middle of the road with a car that wont turn over. So what messes up on these cars, a relay, the switch, the starter itself?? Sorry so long and thanks in advance.

My best bet is that the main relay is going out. My friend owns a prelude with bad main relay and it quits sporatically and wont start quite often. Kind of expensive to replace but you car will run so its worth it.

Could also be a bad winding in the starter motor. Had that on my old 94 GP.

If you hear a click but no starter turning that is ussually the coil activating. If there is no click, it is more likely the coil

Well, from what she is telling me, there was no noise at all. Do the relays or the starters usually go bad in these cars? Where is the main relay located at? And the battery is fine, all the lights come on and nothing has low power going to it.

it sounds like it time to get a new starter... if it was your battery the engine wouldn't turn over at all.

I am kinda leaning more towards the main relay, because thats usually how they go out. The starter starts to sound weak and then go out most of the time. Hers does not sound weak at all. Where is the main relay located on a 95' ST??

I had that problem in my 87 chevy nova, was the clutch switch.

wouldnt be the starter.... starters are only used to start the car and thats it...

if it stalls....hmmmm... lack of oxygen.... check the filters....

before you think it is something major go through a full tune up....

Um she stalled out she is still learing to drive a stick. WHere is the main relay on these cars???

I am pretty sure that honda is the only one with a main power relay problem. Did you check your battery connections? If they are a little loose or corroded it could cause what you are describing. It could also be the clutch safety switch.

The starter relay is in the black box behind the battery under the hood, look on the underside of the lid to know what is what. but I doubt that is it.

Ok, I will put a new relay in (its free), and I did also think about the switch and battery connections. Hopefully it won't be the clutch switch, if its like the hondas it is hard to get to.

Battery terminal corroded or not tight? Or just the battery. My car was doing this cause my terminal wasnt tight enough.
