Long story short. A kid was going to trash this 1987 Celica GTS just because the passenger axle was shot and the drivers side knuckle assembly was missing. So I paid junk price at $350 and towed it home. Here's how it sits for now. It's getting worked on slowly and eventually it'll be back on the road. As for plans for now. Is to make it run and see if my lil bro wants it. If he doesn't then I'm going to make this my function car and maybe AutoX it for fun. My st162.net screen name is iLoveMyDirtBag87.

Those Celica's are awesome. Pops had one back when I was growing up and I always thought it was really comfortable and a really cool looking ride. Actually it was because of his Celica that I wanted one, although I thought the 6gc was more my pace smile.gif

Yeap. These were the first FWD and 3sge powered Celicas. Lol. I always wanted a 4th gen but an all trac. Which are hard to find. Plus this was for dirt cheap and it had the first rev 3sge so why not? Right? Lol. As of right now I'm still waiting on parts to come in.....then tune up.....then SMOG....then register. Lol.

If it was the prettier 5th gen and rust free I'd have to heavily consider it.

Well......I finally had the chance to tear the front suspension apart to find some damage. The previous owner was really lucky the drivers side wheel didn't fly off. When I took off the axle nut the whole hub fell off by itself along with the ball bearings.....Also the passenger side cv axle wasn't even locked in the transmission and the bracket bolts were missing.....so yea. Call the previous owner lucky.

The 4th gen is all blocky though, the 5th gen is all rounded and curvy. Curves are good. tongue.gif

I had a sticky throttle cable and some carb cleaner made it good as new. probably not recommended but it worked for me

I'm guessing mine was bad since I sprayed wd40 into the cable and still nothing. That's why I ended up replacing it and this new one is super smooth.

Woo! So does it have the 160 hp or so now? I can't remember the exact numbers, but I had looked at the 4th gen GT-S before since it already has a 3S-GE and they're pretty cheap.

Resident 4th Gener here......thanks for saving it. When cleaned up properly they can be a beautiful representative of the 80's. If I could I'd own 4th 5th and 6th gens...love them all.

Sorry for the late update but the car is all smogged and tuned and errythang. Only last thing I want to do is upgrade the exhaust piping to 2.25". Also my clutch slave cylinder took a **** and I tried replacing it but I ended up crossthreading the hyd line......so I'ma have to attempt to rethread it with a die.

Nice save, love those cars the more I see them the more they grow on me. Would love to see a tastefully modded progress thread of this car. Were these rwd at one point? I remember checking out a rwd 86? i think celi on craigslist.
