If you have a 4-6hp air compressor, have painted something larger than 40"x40" (I assume you dipped your car with a kit that came with a sprayer?), have no body work that needs to be done, and have $800. You'll be totally fine.

Things you need.

4-6hp Compressor (the hp stated on the box, the hp figure I posted takes into consideration the manufacturers inflated power rating...)

Spray booth or a garage with a footprint of at least 13x24 and ~$157 (prices vary by location/retailer)
8-1" pvc 3-way elbows - $.60 ea
2-1" pvc T pieces - $.60 ea
2-1" pvc 4-way elbows - $.80 ea
13-1" pvc 12' pipes sch 40 -$5.20 ea
6-1" pvc 8' pipes sch 40 - $4.30 ea
1 pack husky 7 mil drop cloths (comes with 6 9x12ft) -$10.43
1 pack 100 uv resistant zip ties 8" Long - $5.00
1 roll 36"x25' insect screen - $20.00
1 18" Holmes box fan from Walmart -$20.00
Tie down stakes (from camping tents, etc) if you have no garage

HVLP or standard spray gun (1.8, fan pattern adjustment knob, media flow rate knob, and air flow rate knob. cheap ones that work pretty well run around $50-$100 I picked up a really cheap one. Harbor freight ones will work. And at about $30 ea, get 3. One for primer, one for color, one for clear.

Masking materials
1 roll 9"x180' - $2.72
1 roll scotch blue 1.88"x60yd $6.83
Decent reusable Respirator mask - $20

Prep materials
320 grit 3m pro grade precision sand paper pack 7"x4.5" 4 sheets - $4.87
400 grit silicon carbide sand paper pack 10 1/2 sheets -$6.27
600 grit of the same stuff -$6.27
1000 grit same stuff -$5.97
Wax and grease remover gallon -$15.00

Paint
1/2 gallon of primer (don't use rustoeums ultimate finish auto primer for 2k paints... Get the good stuff online or at a local paint shop) - price varies
1 gallon paint color of your choice - price varies
1 gallon clear coat of your choice - price varies
You'll save a lot of you buy all the supplies from the same local shop and you'll make some friends too (people who can help you fix things in the future) sometimes the guys are even cool enough to mix you a color with the proper proportions for no charge besides the paint. (So you don't have to weigh it yourself while mixing paint)
1 gallon mineral spirits $14

Price for everything besides paint and an air compressor is about 350 . $450 for paint, primer and clear, will be enough for good quality stuff.

If your compressor doesn't have the power needed, just vinyl wrap, it'll be around 800 for a 5x50 foot roll of a custom color from VVivid vinyls, or $400 for a basic premade color. And it'll come with an install kit too.

I can't remmeber but a custom color does have a minimum length requirement...

Anyway good luck! If you need clarification pm me lol

i mean i was planing on sanding everything down cause on the drivers side i got keyed so i was going to sand down everything before i panted and i was going to try to get rid of those marks. also i didn't use the dip kit i used a top load spray gun and it worked fine so i was thinking of just going for it with actual paint. now whats your opinion on the mixed base and clear coat ?

I also just took off my plasti dip for gloss recently. I did the Rustoleum Roll on paint job. Was gonna use the DYC gun since Rustoleum is oil based. Its even better when you spray it of course but I chose to do roll on. Do alot of research if you're interested its all over youtube and google. They call it a 50 dollar paint job.
I have pictures in my thread and profile. Still working on it. Just giving you some more ideas.

To be completely honest, I wouldn't do it yourself. If you really want to do it yourself, go ahead. It would be much cheaper, but if you've never used a spray gun before, you're gonna have a bad time. Or if you don't prep it well enough it might look good for a month or so. I personally don't know too much about single-stage paints (Base mixed with clear) since it's not legal here in Canada. But if I were to do my car I would go two-stage base/clear since it will come out nicer. Working at an automotive paint shop, I see a lot of people come in with their cars that they painted themselves, and a lot of the time they just look awful.

Although you can try what blockcustomz is doing, it would be a lot easier than trying to figure out a spray gun, although the finish may not be as nice. It's just all in the prep. I haven't seen a car done that way up close though so I can't say for sure. I'm contemplating doing that with my car once I'm done with all the bodywork.
Hope that helps lol.

Don't roll it on unless you can find a really fine microfoam roller. The regular foam rollers that say for high gloss finishes will leave bubbles a majority of the time, if you thin it out more you'll probably get runs. Just use any gravity feed spray gun with at least a 6" fan pattern 1.8mm tip and with all the adjustable things I mentioned. Don't mix your b/c you'll get a tinted color and you'll end up needing ALOT more paint. It'll cost more in the end and the drips that you'll inevitably have, will not be able to be wet sanded without redoing at least 2 more coats.

If you're looking for cheap paint. Grab a load of rustoeums universal metallic cans. I recommend ANY OF THEM LOL they all look great. Spray pattern is a 4" fan but will work with patience. Get the marks straightened up.

The rustoleum universal Metallics don't need primer, but I'd recommend primer if you have a gun that you don't plan on using again (one that dip was sprayed from lol). And you also don't need clear for it, it has clear mixed into the formula ", so the shine and depth will definitely be there. You'll need about 15 cans to do the whole car with 6 good coats. They're about $7 each can

You can, if you want, spray a 2k clear over for protection And extra shine. Without clear, waterspots are difficult to remove without polishing again.
