How would you get HID for the JDM headlights? Is there certain things you need to make it fit or is it just any HID would do?

If you're talking about projector headlights, it uses a different bulb, so you have to make an adapter plug, or you can just cut the plug and solder the leads from the ballast to the wires |

You also need to modify the cut off on the driver side (LHD) housing. The way the lights are designed is to shoot that side's light up, becuase this would technically be lighting up the ditch/side of road/etc in Japan.
Which, in a LHD case, would case the light to be shining right into oncoming traffic. Realistically, this mod shoud be done for any time you use the RHd projectors on a RHD car, regardless if you use HID's or not. -------------------- -Protection mode, For when your amp tries to blow its load. 1995 Toyota Celica GTS - Daily Driver 1999 Chevy Cavalier - Winter Beater 1994 Honda Civic CX Hatchback - Dead My Celica! |

I wouldn't suggest it, as mentioned the cutoff goes the wrong way but more to the point those are expensive and somewhat rare headlights, the UV from HID bulbs as well as the extreme heat (they get ****ing hot) can and will damage the reflective finish in the projector bowls causing irreparable damage. HID projectors use a different kind and quality of finish made to withstand the heat and UV exposure. Maybe hacking them up to install LHD HID projectors from another OEM like a set of Lexus RX projectors or Lexus LX projectors would be a do-able project.

There is somebody in the UK I think that has recently made laser cut brackets (that he is now selling) to directly fit aftermarket (bi-xenon?) HID projector units into the JDM projector housings. It is apparently a bolt in procedure with the parts, and you get a better quality light output designed specifically for LHD. -------------------- SOLD :( 1997 ST204 Celica ZR -----> See it here on 6GC! 2013 October Celica of the Month XD Now: '00 NB8B Mazda MX5 -----> See it here in off topic! |
