Hello everyone!

I am brand new to this forum and I have a 1996 Toyota Celica ST Limited Edition. However, the gearbox feels stiff and while I am due for a transmission fluid change, I was wanting to get more of a shorter throw on the shifter, aswell. Are there any cheap short shifters out there or can I substitute a shifter with a shorter throw from a different model/car?

Thanks and I am excited to be a part of this site. Such awesome cars. (:

The 7th gen Celica short throw lever works very well on our cars. I've had mine for about 4 years with no issues - I think I paid $25-$30. Very cheap. Be sure to install the solid aluminum base bushings it comes with and get yourself some solid brass or spherical bushings (better) for the selector arms - very solid and smooth shifting.

If you can afford it(and find it) get the TRD shifter. It's the best shifter I've ever experienced.

Here's one for $51.50 OBO http://www.ebay.com/itm/Megan-Racing-SS-TC...edg&vxp=mtr

I had the Megan one on mine that I bought off clearance, made a notable improvement over stock. If anything I think the bushings made the biggest difference, I saw them for like $20 shipped for a set on eBay.

+1 on the ebay 7th gen shifter, have been using that for three years so the quality at least holds up. I haven't used any other short shifter though.

ebay short shifter is very notchy and kinda puts your shift knob closer to the front.

I bought an iM, drove it for 3 weeks and decided to take the celica for a spin. Felt like it had a short shifter and performance clutch lol

Yeah the Celica shifter is short compared to my Firebird's, guess it's all about perspective. tongue.gif
