So I was thinking. The guys with 2Gen MR2's run the 2GRFE swap.. Those unfamiliar with the motor it's basically the 3.5L V6 out of a newer Camry/Avalon/RAV4/ES350....... It's a great motor. Stock power is around the 280 hp range. They are also 20lbs lighter than the Iron 3SGTE or 5SGTE. In Australia they have the Aurion which is the Australian Camry that they stuck a Eton TRD Supercharger on 325hp. The Lotus Evora Supercharged version is 345hp or Evora 400 is 400hp.

Anyways they bolt right up to a E153 MR2 2WD Transmission. MR2 guys do it all the time. I have seen a photo of one bolted to a E154F before somewhere on a forum. So anyone willing to do it or have done it? I seen on Instagram that a guy swapped a 2GRFE in a 6GC convertible already. So I know it's doable. This dude can make a plug and play harness for it. http://www.wiregapinc.com/pricing/

I found a motor for $700 out of a RAV4 the other day.

I want to see AWD 2GRFE.

The 1GRFE crank out of the Tacoma/FJ Cruiser/4Runner supposably swaps in the 2GRFE to make a 4.0L Stroker Motor. And if you swapped the 2URFSE direct injected heads off a IS350 or GS350. We might have a high power Hybrid Motor. Then you could go Crazy and Stick the TRD Aurion Supercharger or Lotus Supercharger on it. Power could be in the 450hp - 500hp range and the torque curve would be linear.

This could be the new swap to do rather than a 3SGTE plus parts are easy to come buy. 3SGTE parts are getting harder and harder to find these days.

Kind of a Newbe to the forum but hope to bring some life in the discussion page. I know my crap about Toyota's/Lexus's just need the funds to have fun with the knowledge. Haha Let me know if this has been discussed before?

There is 1 who has successfully done the swap. I am in the process of doing the swap now. Just gathering parts and what not at the moment. Gotta plan a budget of a solid 7k. He has made a build thread already and notes. Just search 2gr here. His user name is NJCCMD2002

As ive been there and done that, awd could be possible with some serious skills to create a header that can avoid the steering rack and transmision.

The 2gr conversion requires a lot of fabwork. And patience.

I posted 2gr quick notes. Read it. Discussion here is pointless. Ive been trying to promote this seap since 2011. Lol. I had to take the step.

I do solid works for work and I have a CNC plasma machine. I'm a fabricator. Headers are the easy part. It's always the wiring that I'm afraid of. Engine mounts seem easy. I figured I could do a full swap for about $2000 in total. Just need to find a E154F. I just wanted to see a AWD 2GRFE. They sound pretty epic with a good exhaust.

This is not for the light hearted lol. Gotta pay to play. Majority of 6th gen owner would not see any benefit to dropping close to 8-9k on their 1000-2000 vehicle. Im doing all the install myself, wiring will be sent out thats for sure. Other than that im going all out on my vert. Its been over due after owning close to 10 different liftbacks and verts haha. Im getting all my info from the mr2 forums and here.

I've done only minimal research on the subject of mating a 2gr to an e154F so don't quote me on any of this but I believe the picture you saw online of the two mated was a hybrid e154f [RAV4 transfer case in place of the regular ST205 (closer look, maybe a ST185 transmission) transfer case]

2GR and E154F Talk

I think it'd be a hell of a project!

Edit: Also, Solidworks is the jam!! I used it extensively in my awd conversion and other suspension related projects!

yeah i highly doubt the ST205 trans will mate to the 2GR. its a huge engine.

we are all familiar with the 2GR and its capabilities.

So far what I added.

lets see.

Engine ------------------------------------ $700.00
transmission with lsd and axles---------- $350.00 using a Solara e153. Found a e154f for $200 once. Kick my self everyday.
headers ----------------------------------- $60 using solid works and the plasma cutter and tubing from work.
decent clutch and flywheel--------------- $300 with wholesale discounts.
mounts parts ----------------------------- $50 with wholesale discounts and plasma cutter at work.
fluids -------------------------------------- $50 overstock from work.
ps pump and lines ----------------------- $50 Junkyard - car-part.com
Spare harness ---------------------------- $80 Junkyard - car-part.com
exhaust parts for mid pipe ---------------$100 wholesale discounts
rav4 ecu -----------------------------------$0 Comes with motor
pedal-------------------------------------- $0 Comes with motor

Total so Far : $1740.00

I know everyone doesn't have the hook ups like I do but there is always a good deal. Just got to be patient.

2GR's are going to get cheaper and cheaper everyday.

Have you thought about the rear end yet?

I went with DOM tubing for the rear subframe mounts. Drew it all up in SW but had a fab shop build and weld it in place. I've seen a few other routes such as tying it into a full cage or using (essentially) square tube. Just curious if you put any thought into it.

That looks super easy to recreate. If you were to do it again would you include bushings?

I have thought a lot about the rear end. I have looked at your swap a million times. I will probably do something similar. I don't know though I kinda want it to look stock so I will probably make custom plate mounts.

I am in the process of finding a all-trac Camry to steel the rear end out of. They are the same as the GT-FOUR just 1" narrower on both sides. I kind of like the idea. I can run an crazier offset on the rear wheels.

There are Camry all-trac's on car-part.com all the time. I'm just having trouble finding a junk yard that will ship a pallet. Most junk yards only want like $200 for the whole rear subframe assembly with everything. They don't know what they have. They thinks its just a common Camry that there were millions made.
