My ST202 sadly been standing still a few years now, but now I plan to fix it.. one of the problems was that the ABS on right rear wheel didnt work too well, it kind of always pulsed when you braked, at least right before the stop.

This is usally the ABS ring that is the problem, but is it possible to change it without replacing the hub ? where can i buy one then ?

I searched and searched, but only find the rings for the front wheels..

I think in the rear it's part of the hub bearing itself?

I don't think the rings go bad, I'd guess the sensor. The ring is pressed (hammered?) into the back of the spindle. You have to remove the 4 bolts holding the hub/bearing assembly and you'll see the toothed ring on the inside. I just don't see what could possibly go wrong on that ring given that it is completely protected inside.

Well if it gets rusty inside they can get cracked from the rust expanding under them and I've seen some Lexus where the stainless steel ring on the hub gets pushed in from rust and grinds the teeth away. but yeah usually the sensor fails. a visual inspection of the ring isn't a bad idea though.

Hmm ok, but if the sensor fails it usally get a errorcode, or stop working, now it "over active", that usally means the ring is bad.. but I only seen this on other cars, never on a toyota..

I guess I have to try to disassemble and see how it looks like.. ..It would be nice to look up how it is constructed on toyodiy but they dont have the pics anymore kindasad.gif

Here are some pictures of the rear hub & bearing assembly with the ABS ring. Like I said, the ABS ring is hammered onto the inside of the spindle, and the whole thing is airtight with the bearing assembly. When you unbolt the 4 bolts, you'll see there is a seal b/w the hub and the backing plate. That's why I said I cannot imagine how this part could go bad without a catastrophic failure.

Hmm, yes that was a good picture, I now understand why noone sell spare rings, because there really are no rings, it is a wheel.

But I think i have to disassemble everything so see what the problem really is.
