I got a question. How would the 7th gen USDM GT-S keep up with a 6th gen GT? I love them both and I'm startin to lean towards a 7th gen cause it's newer but I dont' wanna settle for a slow piece. The GT-S make about 150 HP with VVTL-i right? And the GT is about ... 110? I think they would both be the same ... so can I get some backup on this?

Think he's referring, or trying to refer, to wheel HP. The 7th gen GT-S stock puts down about 150ish HP and the bone stock 6th gen GT at this time would put around 95-105 depending on miles, how it was driven, etc.

The GT-S will be sooo much faster than the the old 5SFE GT's... you won't know what hit you (assuming the person behind the wheel knows how to drive it). Better chassi, more powerful, lighter, newer, better suspension, probably one of the best n/a vehicles in its class.

and its a 6speed, is it not, wouldnt that make for better ratios? or just a better final drive gear?

Aftermarket support for the 7th gen is far superior than anything for the 6th, or any other gen.... and a 3SGTE swap is not aftermarket support. Even still... not a lot of people will swap in a 3sgte. It's one of those things that everyone wants, but aren't willing to go all-out and do it.

Uppity: Yeah, the fast GTS is 6 speed. The autos are pretty sorrily geared and are very slow. It's almost always... the more gears = the ability to gear more gears shorter. With high-powered all motor 4 bangers, typically shorter gearing = quicker acceleration.

Wow from what Im hearing the 7th gen isnt as bad as people say, with a turbo or Super Charger it would be a pretty mean little car, and weight is crazy too! Makes me want to consider one for my next car!

the whole thing is GTS not GT because with the gt compression turbo's and superchargers just aren't happy and no 6th gear tongue.gif .

Well I guess my thoughts were wrong. I suspected that the two would be able to keep up with each other but I guess the 7th gen kills. I guess I'll be tryin to find one of those instead. It's just the whole concept of newer car and all ... plus you can get a lot more stuff for them then for 6th gens. By the way ... any sites where I can get some in depth info on those (other than celica.net)?

Turboing a 7th gen would not be too good of a move ... If my memory serves me right those things have 11.5:1 compression and that kinda compression usually doesn't make for good forced induction setups.

i think trd makes a SC for it and their are already 2 turbo kits out for the 2zzge engine .. so turboing will not be a problem..

Personally I hate those stupid new Celicas. Toyota turned the old classy sportsy style car into a freakin trendy car that only people that have money and want some fast power. Toyota really screwed up by putting the Celica name on that vehicle. Just my opinion on that though.

I dont think they are all that expensive, considering our cars were in the same price range when they were new, and with the 7th gen GT-S you get a hell of a lot more car than the 6th gen GT. Plus those things are freakin sweet on the inside, you feel like youre in a jet when youre sitting in the drivers seat. Theres a real good chance that a GT-S will be my next car.

Actually up here a late model 6th gen is more then a 2000 Celica GT, I think look awesome and hold true to Toyotas unique style. I mean your cant compare the 7th gen to any ca, its totally its own, thought the new rsx has similar shape, but thats not toyotas doing.
