Well hello their 6gc . Let me start off bye saying I found this website about six months ago and immodestly fell in love with celicas. I had no idea of what all could be done to them so my research began. I started saving money to find the perfect car and bam I bought a 94 gt with the 3sgte for 3 grand! I really know little compAred to the pros on here And my journey begins.
The car is lowered on tein springs. It is just an absolute beast to drive but their is much to do. I don't think the engine is wired up correctly, the mph gauge does not work. The rpm seems like it is off(original dash) which could be the problem. It's hard to reverse the car because it shakes and kinda wants to nose dive the front end. I believe this is because it is still fwd and needs to be awd? The motor has 80k miles on it from wat the owner told me but I can't verify that yet. I don't know anyone in georgia on these forums but if u are out their I'd love to meet up someday To see each others rides and maybe help me out with some of my problems. First things first though I need to get it fixeddddd! She will crank like a beast but the guy told me the "ignition coil" was bad. When I turn the key to start the car it just dims all the lights. I basically have to Hotwire it everytime And it's starting to get on my nerves. My name is tothetop on here and that's my goal. But to achieve this goal I know I can't do it without you all. My iphone won't let me upload photos saying their to big. Lastly I would like to introduce myself . My name is James, I am 20 years old basketball player and professional painter. I hAv plenty of construction experience but lack hard when it comes to cars. I hope to get my project off the ground soon but I just found out I have a tumor in my leg so I'm not sure how this will effect my build. Please be patient with me as we'll . I really love 6gc.net just reading ur stories helped motivate me through my own struggles, and hopefully one day I might to help someone unknowingly. First of all, welcome to the site, you have a beautiful celi... Pros of it: it already has the right engine in it, and it looks like it's kept well...
Since I know how bad it is to be in the dark, I'll help you out. I'll answer everything you're doubtful of to the best of my knowledge. don't think the engine is wired up correctly, the mph gauge does not work. The speedometer is independent of the engine performance. It works via a speed sensor located in the transmission, above the differential. It can be replaced, if the cause of the malfunction is a faulty speed sensor, and it shouldn't be that expensive. I would get the problem diagnosed first, before buying any parts. QUOTE The rpm seems like it is off(original dash) which could be the problem. What do you mean by "off"? If the engine in it is a 3sgte with a distributor it shouldn't be off, it should be working fine. QUOTE It's hard to reverse the car because it shakes and kinda wants to nose dive the front end. I believe this is because it is still fwd and needs to be awd? The motor has 80k miles on it from wat the owner told me but I can't verify that yet. I found this funny haha, I've never heard somebody suggest this before so it's a first. However, it doesn't matter if the car is AWD or FWD with the 3SGTE, if it has the proper transmission which, if it runs, I'm guessing it does. It either has the stock GT transmission or has the FWD E153 transmission from a Solara or an MR2 turbo. It could be the off-chance that it has another S-series transmission (S53, S51) or an E154F converted for FWD (which is the numeration if I'm not mistaken for the AWD transmission in the GT-4. A block-off plate can and has been made to block off the transfer case that sends power to the rear wheels) QUOTE First things first though I need to get it fixeddddd! She will crank like a beast but the guy told me the "ignition coil" was bad. When I turn the key to start the car it just dims all the lights. I basically have to Hotwire it everytime And it's starting to get on my nerves. DON'T GET THE IGNITION COIL REPLACED for this issue. It ISNT the issue. If the car doesn't start but when it gets jumpstarted runs just "fine", then the IGNITION COIL is not bad. That is a very expensive part and is probably located above your brake booster. It is what sends power to the spark plugs. If it's bad, the car wouldn't run at all. This sounds like a problem with the battery. If it cranks fine when it gets jumpstarted, probably the starter is also good and doesn't need replacing. Again, check the battery first. Most big-chain autopart stores do a Free Battery Check and either charge it if it's uncharged or recommend replacing if it's lost a cell or two. QUOTE Lastly I would like to introduce myself . No worries, they're not too expensive to replace depending on shop labor around you, but it's something I'd try and do by yourself. If you don't have tools, it's time to go get a craftsman tool set! Buy the biggest one you can afford; one can never have enough tools. If that did it, you might as well take a volt meter to it and check if they've got a polarity to one another. You might also want to solder them together. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold
