so as manny and mr. thoma know i was getting a paint quote on sunday. on my way home my celica shut off and will not start again. timing belt is good. cams look fine. i have no compression in one cylinder. smells burnt im gonna guess bad pisons/rings until i pull it all apart. i am planning on pulling my engine out. i have another lomg block on a stand that i want to rebuild. i am curious as to what engine gasket overhaul kits are a go and which ones are... not so much. i work at a toyota dealership and i understand you get what you pay for, but dont really wanna take a mortgage out to rebuild an engine. couldn't find anything from beck arnley... just looking for thoughts on kits that are good. words of wisdom are welcomed too. please and thank you.

Your jdm vin won't do you any good as microcat can't read jdm vins. Just tell the guys in your parts department to look under 90 Celica, and filter the chassis for ST185. All of the parts are the same as what came in the Celica Alltrac.
Sadly aftermarket gasket sets suck for Toyotas because they try to replace half the stuff with paper gaskets that fail after just a few months. You probably don't need a whole gasket set besides the head gasket. Joe and I replaced most of the stuff with OEM gaskets. You should also be able to reuse the timing belt as its also OEM and was done by us just a few years ago.
