I stumbled on this video from Exedy on how a clutch works. Pretty basic stuff but the most interesting part is in the second half of the video that explains the function of the springs in the clutch disk and why sometimes we hear a rattle at idle with performance clutches. The spring dampeners are a very important thing to have! The only downside is that sometimes the springs fall out. I believe that this is mostly caused by us using clutches with much harsher friction material than what we actually need. When the clutch engages, it puts too much stress on the springs and they end up popping out. The best solution to this problem that I've seen so far, is to encase the springs in rubber. This is done on a few OEM style disks but for some reason has not made it into aftermarket performance clutches. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

I just wish Exedy made something other than a basic street disk for us. It seems they really put a lot of effort into testing and engineering. I run their stage 2, 3 puck. No complaints, but its racing clutch. I dont find it hard to drive but someone drove my car through tech and they were bitching about it. Just get a different fly wheel. I'm pretty sure (not certain) the all trac flywheel is the same width, just not the surface area contact for the clutch, may have to round out the bolt holes a little for the 5sfe; not sure. I used to know very well but its been 2 years since i've messed with all the different parts. Part: 16953A + alltrac/gt4 flywheel. I have a 3sgte. I guess my n00b mistake was looking under the Celica offerings, and not actually taking the time to see what they have for the alltrac! -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
