when i'm driving like from 0- 80kmh it's fine and everything steering is still stiff. but when i'm like going pass 90km/h + the steering wheel starts to lighten up and wobble. like krazy. before i thought it was the problem of my mags due to warpage and unbalanced. so then i bought a new set of rims that were much lighter and are properlly balanced. it is a lil bet better now, but has anyone have this problem before. i would really like to fix this to enhance the handling of my celica.

Start eliminating things,,, 1st, if you have aftermarket wheels, definitely check out the hubcentric rings mentioned above, Toyota definitely uses the hubcentric design. 2nd, swap wheels for a day with another Celica with stock wheels that is smooth. 3rd most likely, someone used an impact wrench on your lugs and warped the rotors, try loosening them all and retightening them by hand, (preferably with a torque wrench). 4: find a shop with a new balancing machine,, I once had to try 4 shops to get one with a good machine. Same guy was apparently going around calibrating all the local machines and doing it wrong or theyt had all just been worn out. stumbled across a shop with a new machine (delivered that same day), had him check the balance as I had been to the 3rd shop, a Goodyear store, the day before. ALL 4 Wheels were out at least a half ounce. it was finally smooth as glass all the way to 90 (as fast as i wanted to go) after doing it on a brand-new balancer machine. 5: all your tires are bad, or at least more than 1, I fought a similar prob once where it turned out 3 of 4 speed-rated Michelins were bad, and causing a pull and light shake, no matter how I swapped them around, I couldn't get rid of the prob, ended up at the dealer, they jacked up another car and swapped all 4 wheels for a test - no more prob!!! ALL of the above assumes there is no physical problem with the car like a bad tie-rod end or strut etc...any good alignment shop will check all that b4 they even attempt to align it. |
