Hi everybody. I'm new to celica's and toyotas in general after coming from mainly building 13b rotarys. I found a nice 1998 Gt with an excellent body( which is very rare here) but the water pump failed and it over heated so it was sold cheap. The only motor here for sale are 2001 Camry motors. I know both engines are roughly the same except the Camry has coils. My question is can I swap the 2001 Camry motor in? I need to keep it the same motor for autoX classing. Can I swap the distributer over along with my other accessories and make it work or does the celica head need to be swapped over to the Camry block? Any info would be great. Thanks

The car was going to be in street prepared class. Stock engine and drivetrain with suspension and brake upgrades. That's the class my friends run and its mostly low end cars for a laugh rather then to be competive. After reading your replies I am interest in this 3S-GE motor even if it outclasses me from my friends.

Not sure if I linked that right but is that the red top motor you mentioned. It's a complete motor with harness and ecu. Anything else you can think of that I'd need before starting. I may just replace the water pump on the stock motor for now and gather the parts and materials for a swap after I've learned an bit more about the car
