Tried to open up the Figure 8 link today and this is what it looks like inside ...
Its not a ball joint ... Its the same for the centre part of the superstrut lower arms .. it knocks due to worn out plastic housing of the stud in it (freeplay) .. The component that goes out is the figure 8 and the middle part of the lower arms .. they have the same construction .. moving ball/spherical joints seldom wears .. the knocks occur due to worn out plastic housing thus causing freeplay ..
