Replacing studs is relatively easy. How did they break off?
First, use a punch to drive what's left of the broken studs out of the hub. Then, insert the new studs from behind, one at a time. To pull the stud up tight you need to have a large hardened steel nut (like a lug nut) open at both sides so you can screw it all the way down to the surface of the hub. Tighten the hardened nut to pull the stud up inside its hole until it is solidly fit in place and there is zero gap between the head of the stud and the rear surface of the hub. Might be good to first place a washer against the front surface of the hub before tightening the nut, so you don't mar the hub. Keep doing that for all five studs. There may be better ways, but this will get the job done. This post has been edited by Langing: Jun 2, 2014 - 11:48 AM |
