Hey guys! I'm new to the forum and new to the celica. I was lucky enough to have a good friend of mine give me his 95 ST204 5S-FE. I replaced the battery and clutch master cylinder today and decided to start it up. I was sitting inside messing with the radio for maybe 20 minutes or so and I heard a pop. The whole top part of the radiator exploded off!!!!! Heat gauge was reading normal and the water pump was replaced before it was garaged for three years. Any idea what may have caused this? Any advice would help. I'm a diy kinda guy. Thank you!

Yup, what ^ they said. I found out that it's best to change out the coolant every 3 years and when you don't KABOOM! Now when mine blew up, I changed the thermostat prior and the coolant prior, but not the rad cap.

As shown ^ here.

If I had known what a "healthy" rad cap looks like perhaps it would of been different and perhaps not. I changed out the stock rad and got an aftermarket from Autozone (yes it's metal Silly97) and she has been beautiful ever since.
