I finally got around to finish up the installation of a thermostatic controlled sandwich adapter and oil cooler and ran the car for about 5 minutes. No leaks. Road Test pending as I am doing other stuff to the car.
Since we all know that 7AFE engines run hot and bake the oil if not taken care off. So I found a potential solution. I purchased a 7x10 inch oil cooler and a Derale brand thermostatic-controlled sandwich adapter that opens around 180 degrees. I then installed it in between the oil filter and oil filter nipple. Ran two hoses (forward and return) to the front of the car and installed the oil cooler there. In the garage, the car warmed up nicely but the temperature needle did not go halfway as it used to do. So far so good. Its a simple install. Here are the pictures. Total cost around $120 (including mistakes) http://s48.photobucket.com/user/msk59/libr...rt=3&page=1 The sandwich adapter I used is Darale 25783 Low Profile thermostatic adapter with pressure relief. Mine barely fitted in the small space between the front of the engine and the exhaust manifold. The adapter is only one inch thick so there is still enough air between the exhaust manifold and the filter itself.
I am not familiar with the 5S engine. BTW, there are numerous configuration available and you can install an oil filter relocation kit. I will try to get the pictures uploaded in photobucket tonight when I get home. I wish (like other forum) where you have the option to upload your pictures directly from your computer. Perhaps there is a reason for that. |
