I finally got around to finish up the installation of a thermostatic controlled sandwich adapter and oil cooler and ran the car for about 5 minutes. No leaks. Road Test pending as I am doing other stuff to the car.

Since we all know that 7AFE engines run hot and bake the oil if not taken care off. So I found a potential solution. I purchased a 7x10 inch oil cooler and a Derale brand thermostatic-controlled sandwich adapter that opens around 180 degrees. I then installed it in between the oil filter and oil filter nipple. Ran two hoses (forward and return) to the front of the car and installed the oil cooler there. In the garage, the car warmed up nicely but the temperature needle did not go halfway as it used to do. So far so good. Its a simple install.

Here are the pictures. Total cost around $120 (including mistakes)

The sandwich adapter I used is Darale 25783 Low Profile thermostatic adapter with pressure relief.

Thanks

When I was doing the search I found out that European model STs iwth 7A-FE engine came from factory with oil cooler the one you have. It goes back to the oil sump. US models did not came with the oil cooler, called heat exchange. The did that in Camry here but not Celica or Corolla. So I did this sandwich adapter with thermostat and oil cooler setup.
